It would be nice to hear the Democrats of today own up to their racist past instead of desperately trying to accuse everybody in both parties of magically switching sides.

The Democrats were sued just to get that apology.in 2004 that went all the way to the Supreme Court as the 9th court dismissed on standing, though they admitted their history of racism under oath, they refused to apologize for it. The apology was all that was requested.

On April 16, 2007 the U.S. Supreme Court refused to hear Perryman v Democratic National Committee, 06-1107. The case had been filed by an African-American minister who lives in Washington state. He had charged that the Democratic Party between 1792 and 1965 had engaged in a pattern of overt, systematic racism against African-Americans, and he wanted an apology and damages. The lower courts had dismissed his case on standing grounds.

It would be nice if the Republican Party Candidates showed the class John McCain did four years ago ... but they won't, because we all know why.
