Self-induced Segregation?
I have theory I've been thinking about for awhile.
I think that the separation of races in our country is self-imposed. I'll do my best to explain this...
As long as we separate ourselves into groups, there will always be discrimination. As long as we are Americans and African-Americans (or Mexican-Americans, Asian-Americans, ect.) we will have problems.
Don't get me wrong, I am all for people remembering their past and embracing their culture; but until we all can start to identify ourselves as the same people it will never get better.
If all the whites in America decided to identify with their ancestry tomorrow, what would happen? I think if we identified ourselves as Irish-,German-,English-, Russian-Americans we would find discrimination rapant across the board (similar to the turn of century).
Untill we see ourselves as one people, we never will be.
Thats it in a nutshell. What y'all think?
