Race and IQ is one of those things it's un-pee see to even think about - the correlation is denied for ideological, not scientific reasons. Yet the differences are there - how many white guys are in the NBA?

The most telling IQ stat, given by this thread, is that people think that IQ can be measured in simple terms.

What if someone's bad at taking tests, but very intelligent?

Is someone who is genius at math but say a social retard smart or stupid?

If one persons opinion of smart is different from another's then does the definition change depending on who is reading the information presented?

Did you think about those questions before you made the thread? I doubt it.

Anyone notice this:

IQ tests were designed by Europeans, with the idea of using 100 as an average score.

And lo and behold! Europeans have an average score of 100!!

That fact alone should be enough to tell you that IQ scores are not culturally independent, no matter how hard the test designers try to make them so.

Such "average" scores are criticized for one other reason as well: individual variation within a given group generally far exceeds the differences in averages between groups. So as a tool of social policy or analysis, it's useless.

I'm reading a collection of Twain essays at the moment. I love that his writing is funny while generally being spot-on -- the mark of a great satirist.

My favorite essay so far is his review of James Fenimore Cooper's "The Deerslayer." He thought it was total rot.

Well if you ever make it to Missouri, the town of Hannibal has a nice museum dedicated to Mark Twain.

I have to say his observations on politics has lost little in translation over the years.

That's not surprising nor discrediting.

Yet Asians score higher than Europeans, so the implication that these scores are somehow biased is quickly disproved.

If you doubt the test results which demonstrate that whites are smarter than blacks in general, all you have to do is look at the real test.....how well do blacks do in the real world compared to whites.

It becomes quite obvious that blacks are generally intellectually inferior to whites.

I've made it to St. Louis and gone up in the Arch (sorry to say, but that was a big disappointment: tiny little windows looking more or less straight down); and also visited Wilson's Creek battlefield and Six Flags over MidAmerica. But haven't made it to Hannibal yet.

People are still the same. The journalism seems decidedly less violent these days, though!
