Thread: Thinking outside of the box?

Default Thinking outside of the box?

Here is a vid I would be very interested in getting some Christian input on. To set up the vid, it is a 6 minute clip of a documentary made by an Evangelical Christian by the name of Dan Merchant. Dan made the documentary to document his journey to find the answer to a question he has had for many years. The question is "Why is the Gospel of Love Dividing America?". So please take 6 minutes to watch the vid and tell me your thoughts on it. Remember, this is not a Christian smear vid and it was made by a devout Christian and that the vid has been seen in many Churches around the Country.

I have no idea what to say. I really don't. I feel like I understand the other side pretty well, but I can't speak for most Christians. That's certainly an interesting idea, and I would like to see more about this kind of thing. I really like the end of the video too, it's so true.
I am a proud member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. If you have a question about my religion, please ask me, and I'll see what I can do for you.

This is not surprising to me at all. When you debate the other side long enough, you realize just how bad the ignorance from the religious folk is when it comes to science.

Just look on this board. How many times has the difference between a Layman’s theory and Scientific theory been explained? Too many for me to count.

When you say 'god', which one are you referring to?

I'm not saying let's kill all the stupid people, I'm just saying let's remove all the warning labels and let the problem sort itself out.

The video was by no means a scientific study and the sample size was too small to yield definitive results... but none the less I found the results interesting. If you like the end of the vid I would encourage you to see the whole documentary. I found it fascinating. I thought the film maker was surprisingly objective and candid.

I think the documentary can be seen on youtube, but it is also on HULU and Netflix.

It was more than just about science, the liberal team knew a lot about Christian beliefs... whereas the conservatives biblical teachings bared them from being able to answer the scientific questions that went against their Religion.

I like what the liberal lady in the black top said... we (liberal team) "the game wasn't about what our opinion was, it was about how many people were surveyed (and their answer)". It showed that the liberals could think outside the box while the conservatives were locked into their own beliefs and unable to step outside of those beliefs. This makes it very hard to relate to or empathize with others IMO.

The game was not about the personal opinion or convictions of the contestant... it was about guessing how 100 random people answered a survey. The liberals got it and the conservatives could not see beyond their own beliefs. To me this is very telling. And in the end when both sided sat down for a long chat... they realized that the other side was not as bad as they thought. Agnostics and Christians talking in a civil manner! What will be next? Cats and dogs becoming best buddies!

I have a cat and a dog who do everything together. Guess they're more evolved than some of us on here.

Well from your signature I gather that you are a Christian. So instead of taking a pot shot at ChiKaea why don't you watch the video and tell us what you think?

I don't feel comfortable clicking random links. Perhaps you can summarize the point of the video .
