i think thats not right because you do a comparing based on t the past actions of early European Christianity where the authority of the Church it was bad already at this case because the authority of the Church used wrongly & it made Christians people suffered but at the case of Islam , i think it,s different
the cause was that Arabs & Muslims have a great civilizations using the great instructions of their religion.

First sympathy
The democracy and freedom if we make it related to our minds will involving us to a more argument and no positive result will appear that is for example a woman without clothes is a very repulsive view for lot of societies even they are a men or women, Christians or Muslims and this view is a very simple thing to lot of others, so the rules of freedom and democracy is a very difficult to be governed by a humans because of the different ways that people think with, the religion is the only rule may collects the people to a one way of behavior and i don't point here to a certain religion but for example if you have a children and he ask you for a some sweet you know that its too dangerous for him, if you try to tell him about how much its dangerous he will not accept any word of you and may tell you about the freedom of his choice of food even his food are completely sweets
 , now you must be a dictator to save your baby health even he didn't agree with you, also the GOD gives us the rules to save our humanity and behavior and relationships and also to save the link with the GOD and this rules sure including the whole meaning of democracy of and freedom

Freedom is relative.....
Using the Physics Laws of Relativity as a premise:
Freedom is Relative ! Freedom is defined according to individuals their perception of life and/or reality. Just a thought.

Good thought Cristian, yes its a relative but the quistion here is how to collect this meaning to be a one controlled rule ?
The beatiful meaning of democracy and freedom is a good to be unity for all for more peace and happiness
