Default World Unite

I am writing to you about something that I feel is very important. I hope after you read this you will chose to help. If you read the papers or listen to the news you know how crazy today's world is. With wars raging in the middle east, tribal conflict in Kenya, and here in the west their is drugs prostitution, and gang violence. All these things make me wonder what will become of mankind if we don't change.
One night I began to ponder over the troubles people face in today's world, and could we change things for the better. When it came to me prayer was the answer. If EVERYONE prayed for the same thing God would answewr us. So why do we not have a WORLD PRAYER DAY. The idea being that EVERYONE around the world pray simultaneously. Though all religions are different they all have the same base of good moral standards. I do not believe any religion would oppose this idea.
This may sound to you like an impossible task, but I believe WORLD PRAYER DAY is possible if properly advertised. That is why I need your help, I need you to help me advertise this event. The date WORLD PRAYER DAY will be held on is March 17 2010 3:00 p.m. GMT. I know that if it is worldwide for some it will not be March 17, and it may mean praying in the early hours of the morning. For others it may mean praying late in the evening, but this is a small sacrifice to pay to be united in prayer round the world. Think of the impact this will have globally. The year 2010 was chose so that hopefully by that time everybody around the globe will have heard of WORLD PRAYER DAY. If we all tried to pray for 20 mins, first asking for forgiveness, then asking for world peace. People can pray in their synagogues, mosques, churches, temples, or you can pray at home, or at work, it does not really matter where you pray just so long as you pray.
Now I am asking you to help me with advertising WORLD PRAYER DAY. Post the information on other forums/sites. Talk about it, email your friends, tell your family and friends. Do whatever you can to help spread the news of this major event.

Very sweet, but very misguided plan, unless you think you can come up with a better plan than God.

The only thing that will end this mess, and what we should be hoping and praying for as Christians, is Christ’s coming, and that will happened according to God’s plan, not ours.

Remember “Thy will be done, on earth as it is in Heaven”… not “our” will.

Our task right now is to pray in private, to love our neighbors, and to do unto others…

Peace

People don't have to pray in private, most of the major faiths join in prayer at least once a week. It is not wrong to ask for something from God people do it all the time eg. 'God please help my sick child get better'. God's will is what will be done regardless, but maybe it is God's will that the world should unite in prayer. I think it would greatly please God if people from all faiths all over the world set aside their differences and came together in prayer.

First, what “Major faiths” do seldom coincide with Christ’s instructions.

Second, no it’s no sin to pray together with others. As for the OPs idea of bringing peace to this world in that way is Scripturally nonsensical on so many levels it would take a while to go through them.

I wasn’t attempting to be rude or arrogant sounding; I hope I didn’t come off that way.

What biblical evidence or otherwise is there that....weight of prayer plays any role?

On that note, as god is all knowing anyway, what exactly is the point?

Obviously we’re speaking in the context of believers.

On that note, God knows more and better than we, as would a parent compared to a child.

You might not rearrange your world around the kids opinion, but you could grant certain wishes so long as they weren’t detrimental on a larger level.

No but I mean, he already knows what we want, whats the point in voicing it? You could think it atleast. And repetative praying- saying the same thing everynight- thats kinda pointless right there isn't it? He knows long before the 1st time, why repeat yourself?

I know what you’re saying, but I’m gonna speculate… I'll just throw out a couple of my own thoughts here.

Repetitive prayer is spoken against in the Bible (like, who would want to be spoken to that way anyways). A basic structure was proposed by Jesus, but not the rambling on like some religious folks tend to do. More like speaking to a person what’s on your mind is what's right.

Think about this, too... if you know someone, like them, respect them, appreciate them, is it like a chore to speak to them? Even in a letter to someone where there’s no two-way, you can still communicate your thoughts and feelings.

Also, maybe prayer isn’t only to “inform” God, but it’s good for us to keep us from forgetting. I mostly pray “thanks” anyways.

Also, what's on our minds will come out of our mouth, so maybe our prayers sorta present a record to be referred to at some point, (I dunno)

It’s also respectful,

and maybe God would like to have our thoughts directed to Him instead of just knowing that He knows…

God displays many more “human” tendencies than most care to appreciate... mercy, anger, regret, jealousy… He’s not a robot.

Just trying to answer as best I can.

Wouldn't it be easier and more fun to have a world orgasm day?
