DNA evidence cannot be "misinterpreted". It simply is what it is. The sun shines. When the sun goes behind a cloud or under the horizon, you can say what you want but the fact is, the sun is still shining.

The book of mormon states that Lehi was a descendent of Joseph, who was a descendent of Abraham, Issac and Jacob:
"And Aminadi was a descendant of Nephi, who was the son of Lehi, who came out of the land of Jerusalem, who was a descendant of Manasseh, who was the son of Joseph who was sold into Egypt by the hands of his brethren." - Alma 10:3

There are genomes that are passed down from generation to generation that do NOT - repeat - that do NOT "thin out" over time. They either become more genetically diverse or less genetically diverse, but the traces are still there.
In North America, there are 5 mitochondrial lineages found here, all of which can be traced back to Asia. These 5 lineages can all be traced back 50,000 years or so, but once arriving in America, their genetic diversity decreased because they only bred among themselves.
If Joseph Smith was correct, then
(1) we would clearly see DNA markings of some other people that came from the meditteranean area - ANY OTHER PEOPLE - HEBREW - GREEK - TURKISH - AFRICAN - JEWISH - ARAB - PERSIAN - BALTIC - SCANDANAVIAN - but we do not, only the 5 haplogroups from Asia
(2) genetic diversity would have increased, not decreased. If these people intermixed with a single hebrew - JUST ONE HUMAN BEING FROM ANOTHER HAPLOGROUP - then there would be genetic fingerprints as well as INCREASED genetic diversity all over the place.
If you have proof counter to this, please produce it.
