Indeed they are as Matthew was a disciple of Jesus and the old testament speaks of Jesus in almost everything especially in this area.

Anyway, death penalty aside - seeing as how Jesus was a man of 'Middle-Eastern appearance' who suffered torture and baseless accusations at the hands of troops of an occupying force - I'm sure he would have a lot of sympathy for the inmates of Abu Grahib and Guantanamo Bay. At least Jesus got some sort of a trial though.

Jesus was Martyrd within the law (if that is what you want to call it) he went through all the trials and appeared before the necessary people so his death was legal. This phrase was an attempt to curb Gods anger from those who had desired this end on him. "To this end was I born, for this cause came I into the world"
