Empty, void of purpose and meaning. Could you imagine a collective concious of the 6.2 billion or so inhabitants of Earth that all of a sudden stopped believing in God and consequences? Anarchy would ensue. While Karl Marx said "Religion is the opiate of the masses" and decried God..it laid the ground work for Stalinism which sent many to the Siberian Gulags and starved millions. yes be proud atheists... Condemn the Spanish Inquisition and "Popery" No one can hold a candle to your blood stained path following Maoism and Stalinism..decrying organized religion as foolish and weak. "We don't need no stink'n God" Walk tall! Last edited by Herkdriver; 04-09-2008 at 01:54 PM. |

soapbox much? My kids have morality. We don't believe in hurting other people. We help as much as we can. We try to be kind to everyone, insofar as it is possible. WE believe in good grades and being respectful. My kids love their country. My son has already said he might want to serve in the Navy, just like his grandpa and uncle did. I believe in keeping my promises, buying soldiers meals anonymously in airports, following the law, and taking care of my children. Those are the morals of my family, and my family is a lot more tangible to me than any invisible God. Why would you assume that we are any different from you, simply because we don't believe in God? We aren't depraved sex fiends dancing naked around fires on the weekends and raping goats. Well, most of the time, anyway. ^humor. Get it?

I mean, (*)(*)(*)(*) man, I work in a law-enforcement field. I'm not a fan of anarchy or communism. I'm a red-blooded patriotic American who believes in cooking apple pies from scratch, for gosh's sakes.
It's funny how religious people automatically assume that the rest of us are so different...

I stopped believing in God about 8 years ago. No anarchy ensued. I don't live much different these days from how I lived then (only I used to be married to a complete (*)(*)(*)(*)wit, and now I'm single). I date a military man and am awed by his service. Raytri WAS a military man (army, I believe). I work in a field where I try to serve low-income criminally-involved youth and do a lot of training for cops and community members on "old fashioned" values like taking care of each other and the adults being responsible for all of the kids. My kids do homework every night for at least an hour. They are respectful to adults. When adults speak to them, they are required to say sir or ma'am. WHen they are asked by me to do something, the proper response is "yes, ma'am." I am just in awe of your perspective. My life hasn't changed substantively since I stopped going to church from a moral perspective. I go to work. I work hard. I pay my taxes. I mow my own (*)(*)(*)(*) yard. I make sure my kids are well-behaved. Frankly, I can travel with them or take them in any restaurant anywhere because they have nice manners and know how to be respectful. I doubt that much would change. In my case, I sleep in on Sunday mornings and save 10% (which I donate to charity, instead). My life isn't substantively different from when I was a believer.

Faith is about a spiritual life OUTSIDE of this existence...this existence is temporary.. when you die...at least according to you....that's it...eternal nothingness.... I do not believe that, and in order to have this eternal spiritual life, it is required by God, by his word, to accept Jesus as my Savior. That's it...it isn't about giving millions to charity or helping the poor it is about accepting Jesus Christ as your Lord and as your Savior. I am not the Judge and Jury of your life, that is God. I am not on a soapbox, I put little to no faith in Humanity my friend. Little to no faith in it at all. Good luck with that if you do. If that is your "God". It is not mine. My thoughts are that there is one true path and one true God. The Holy Trinity of Father, Son and Holy Spirit. Christianity by the tenents of my faith, tolerance is required and the judgment of another's soul is up to God.... therefore that is my thoughts of other religions and faiths... Our lives are tiny little blips on the radar screen of history...do you know how quickly we as individuals will be forgotten? Days, weeks, years....oblivion. Statues crumble, paintings fade, pictures are deleted. Christianity is life after death...while our bodies return to carbon dust, our soul is everlasting.
