That is the underlying question. You are specifically questioning individual religious tenents. For example the monotheism of Judaism/Christianity/Islam Yahweh, God, Allah. The theme of this thread, at least as I intended was Faith in general. Doesn't have to have specifics. To begin the exploration of Faith, an assumption must be made first. That the Universe has a purpose, and Life which has emerged amidst it. If you can't conceive of there even being a purpose than indeed, there is no reason to explore Faith...your mind is closed, it is made up. I'm encouraging the exploration of Faith in it's many forms. To the possibilities of purpose in contrast to the stark reality of the denial of this possibility. Nihlism/Atheism Baby steps my friend...baby steps. |

There is no difference between chatting on a message board via the internet vs. a Cave painting dated B.C.
All are inherently forms of communication.... While technologically more advanced using electrons travelling at near speed of light opening and closing circuits aka "computers".... it's nothing new to Nature. Insects have been communicating to each other through pheromones long before we arrrived on this scene. What's so great about the "internets" to use a Pres. Bush colloquialism I say.... So what? Well, you know the Scientific community is so high and mighty.
Bear in mind I have a BSAE degree ...Aerospace Engineering. Frankly they've been patting themselves on the back so much in this Industry, it galls me. Think about it really. The Bronze age introduced shields and spears to the battle space...those technologies allowed Empires to grow. Our modern 21st Century avionics and airframes, fly-by-wire capabilities also allow for certain degree of dominance. The underlying theme of human nature really hasn't evolved along with these technologies. We're still killing one another in warfare are we not my friend. Spiritually we are not advancing with our toys...we are stagnant...we've given up the exploration of Faith in exchange for a total reliance upon Technology and Science to solve every single problem... in the meantime....war is prevalent, suffering still exists, disease still exists... Good God man, Faith must accompany Reason for all of this to work. I'm I the only one who sees through the shroud of Technological convenience? Instead of killing each other sword to sword, it's done by remotely piloted drones. These asymetrical wars in Afghanistan and Iraq are symbolic that Technology cannot solely defeat an enemy or the will to fight. Science is not the answer to everything. We are spiritual beings as much as we are part of materialism. anyway. end of rant. Last edited by Herkdriver; 04-10-2008 at 01:34 PM. |

ooooo! I'm really scared, Herk.
Nothing scares me more than dying. Guess what? I believe I have a finite beginning and ending. That doesn't frighten me. I came to grips with the fact that I was going to die years ago. In fact, that was back in the days when I was far more likely to die, and I was getting shot at by gang members. Dying doesn't scare me nearly as much as living my life in fear. I'm sorry that you are terrified of your own mortality.

Apologies. I'll go back to the usual Lib/Con bickering. I forgot my place. Pardon the faux pas. |
