I'm not saying that people can't speak whatever language they want, just that some languages (particularly the ones that are difficult to learn and are not used by very many people) are just not worth having, and that governments should not try to prolong them.

I find it extremely ironic that many of those who claimed that Bush was the worst president in history claim that Obama is possibly the greatest thing to ever happen. If it is policy you are concerned with, then Obama is simply more of the same. More spending, more deficit, more foreign involvement, more government intervention, and more government regulation. Only a true partisan would claim that Obama represented change as the only change is the party he's from.

Name one please. Just because the 'average person' doesn't find it useful it doesn't have any value or meaning?

What about Native American language and culture? They don't matter much to 'average' white folks.

What about Tibetan? It only matters to Tibetans and Buddhists. Would you eliminate that too?

If a language matters to someone, then they are free to use it as they wish, and to teach it to their children and others. However, if a government feels that it needs to intervene to protect a language, then that is evidence that the language serves no purpose and that help should not be given. So long as Tibetans are using their language, they should keep doing so, but if they find that it is more economical to simply learn and teach Chinese then they have the choice to do that, and the traditional Tibetan language would die out. I don't support actively "eliminating" languages, I simply don't want people to support languages that are dying out.

If a language is not supported to exist it will die out. The Chinese are doing all their power to wipe out Tibetan culture. It needs to be preserved.

I see that you do not support Tibetan culture being preserved.

It happens to be very important to me. I chant and pray in Tibetan.

I certainly don't support the active wiping out of a language. The Chinese just want to wipe out all of the Tibetan resistance to their rule. If the language was dying out on its own because people no longer had the incentive to speak it, then I would not support people coming in and trying to preserve it.

I got the message. You don't support the preservation of the Tibetan language.

Neither to I support its active destruction. We should leave languages alone.

I value Tibetan. You don't. I cannot leave the language alone because it is my language of prayer.

You stated that unless the 'average person' (like yourself) finds the language of value, it should not be supported.

I disagree.

No, no, I didn't. I don't support government supporting any language at all. If someone wants to use a language, let them. If no one wants to speak a language, let them.

Look. I have been completely beat up by meow tonight and I can't even count on a 'friend' supporting the existence of my sacred language.

I've had it.
