Default Pilot's Prayers Answered?

Something I posted on my site... Questioning the basis of how many "miracles" are passed on. See: Bible

From Yapping Idiot

A couple pilots who were flying and ran out of gas claim that their prayers were answered as they crossed a ridge and found a safe landing site: apparently located nearby a Jesus sign.

Oh my, where to begin?…

Planes make emergency landings everyday. A good number of them land without harm (similar to the one in this story) but we don’t hear about them. Why? Because they didn’t land next to a Jesus sign and a safe landing is not very newsworthy. Then, you have the ones that land with the nose of the plane in an undesirable direction (a.k.a crash) and of course, you don’t hear about “God’s plan” in these stories, they’re just not Sunday sermon material. So eventually, in all of these daily emergency landings, a plane was bound to land in the relative proximity of a Jesus sign (it’s a numbers game), and then we get a cute little article like the one mentioned. This my friends, is the “logic” that perpetuates religion. It’s selective evidence. A plane that crashed and burned that carried pilots begging to God for mercy probably won’t be the one of the Most Emailed articles. Neither will the plane that safely lands next to the sign that reads, “Big Earl’s Girls”.

And lastly, I find it even more ironic that this is one of the most emailed articles during a time when natural disasters are killing tens of thousands of people worldwide. So let me get this straight, God is going to sit back and let nearly 90,000 people die in an earthquake in China, let tornadoes rip through the Midwest, let people die everyday from cancer, AIDS, heart attacks, etc, but he’ll step in and use his “almighty” powers to find a safe place for an airplane with two pilots to land…and to be cute, he’ll give them just enough fuel so when the plane comes to a rolling stop, it’s in the vicinity of a Jesus sign.

Now, I get it.

The pilots were just lucky, what happened has nothing to do with religion.

What's wrong with the site, WF?

Nothing is wrong with the site, the thread was simply a duplicate because he uploaded it and the site was automatically uploaded as a blog.

It's funny, when I first read this story it was just about his emergency landing. Then slowly, the "Jesus sign" detail crept up to the top of the page, and finally by the end of the day it was the headline: "Pilot makes emergency landing next to Jesus sign."

I guess reporters realized what gullible saps really go for, and by extension what sells newspapers.

Prayers don't drive a plane.
That is not the intent of religion.
Atheist's want a 900' Jesus to show up at their door step with a bundt cake and a welcome
wagon sign.

This example was probably a coincidence. Miracles do occur, but the Catholic church uses logic and deduction to truly determine a divine event.

There is a lot of anti-Christian/anti-Religion folks in here who obviously deny the reality of Atheistic regimes which are responsible for the death and starvation of Millions of people.

Chiefly the Staliinist and Maoist revolutions built upon Marxism. These are empirical examples of what happens to cultures which literally outlaw religion.

So really the anti-Chrisitian folks and anti-Religion folks simply deny historical reality.

There is really no point in arguing with idiots...and those folks are idiots.

Religion, or specifically Christianity centers on the spiritual, the human soul. It is a quest for purpose and meaning. There is historical evidence of the existence of Jesus, there are historical evidences of biblical references and of course the rest is based upon Faith.

Jesus did indeed perform many miracles, this is how He developed the following he did.
He wasn't just a "crazy" man claiming He was the Son of God, he gave the people Divine miracles.....

This particular example of pilot's praying for a safe landing is probably not divine intervention, but to test God and demand super-natural evidence is NOT the purpose of religion. We have Free Will to accept or reject Him, to reject God. Obviously most of the people reading this post have chosen to reject God...but to think that rejecting God is good for an overall culture...is welll...it's denying EMPIRICAL examples of what happens to a culture when this happens.

The public's knowledge of the horrors of life under Mao and the massive megamurders of his communist regime, second only to Stalin's, had never really reached public consciousness
