Of course you don't worship your science text book But you do have faith in it. I respect how you view life but I don't understand about Atheists how they say "What is explained and proven I take as truth" but then what about the unexplained?

faith because of observed patters, consistency. not blind faith. what about the unexplained? it simply remains unexplained.

The unexplained will always be there. Mysteries have been solved since my birth. We have added to our block of knowledge daily. The unexplained as far as religion i see as a manipulated myth to control the uneducated masses of that age. Science and my own knowledge of RNA World creation explain to me the beginnings as far as we are able to go.

I live though as i said in my last post thinking the best of humanity. I don't really dwell on the unexplained. Does that give you an idea of what I mean. If not let me know.

Is blind faith not involved when you believe the scientific take on the creation of the universe? There is no hard proof. It's a theory. Yes it's a theory derived from 'studies' and 'facts' but essentially to full-heartedly believe it requires blind faith. Or at least it is the same blind faith to me as believing in God is blind faith to you Atheists.

Perhaps this is to the very extent you as an Atheist and I as a religious person can reach an understanding.

its nothing like that. i dont know of any theory that explains the creation of the universe. theres no blind faith required to safely assume something will happen based on having seen it happen time and time again. dont try to rationalize your religious beliefs to people by juxtaposing them to scientific theories, thats absurd.

the understanding has already been reached. youre free to believe in whatever you want, and im free to believe only in what makes sense based on observation and testing.

The only thing I'm rationalizing between both religion and science is they're both based on faith, it's true regardless if you refuse to admit it.

And glad we've reached an understanding.

The best part of debate is to reach understanding a common ground. I don't see debate in a sense of changing minds that is really hard to do especially on this topic.

I understand what you mean and what you are getting at. Faith in religion is IMO a blind faith in something that cannot be proved as far as I can tell. I grew up in a home with faith. In science I see and read the outcomes of experience and testing. I can look at the universe and people and have an idea as to what really happened to bring it all about. There are gaps in what I have learned. Yes mush is theory. But in the end more concrete to me.

I suppose in a way it could be called faith. I just see it as knowledge with gaps, People of faith in my eyes (I do fully respect a persons faith) are throwing themselves into the arms of faith.

Yeah me too. Well I feel strongly there are certain principles behind both Atheism and religiousness that share common ground which explains why I'm a fan of both science and religion. Definitely not a "bible thumper" so to speak here to turn you over to the "dark side" like some.

completely different types of faith -- one is blind. for example:

science: i drop a ball once, it hits the floor. i predict it will hit the floor if i drop it again.

religion: god exists. just because.

the only person refusing anything is you. you refuse to accept that your belief system is completely baseless, and not similar to science in any way. lets see you pray for good health in lieu of taking medicine or seeing a doctor next time something ails you. or perhaps, pray for the power of flight instead of avoiding what science tells you is a lethal fall off of a cliff. i doubt you would take the leap.

Actually no. And OK I can see it already happening. Debating the differences between Atheism and religion is futile so might as well allow you get to know me better. Be it to your surprise or not but I'm willing to acknowledge the scientifically wrong and illogical basis behind some of the biblical stories. To me that's not what the purpose of religion or the bible is. I don't necessarily read the bible to learn the anatomy of humans and how we've evolved but rather to find the "inner-truths" behind the bible's meaning.

To me the bible isn't meant to be read of as a "factually wrong book of allegories" .. it's filled with brilliant teachings that guide us into finding truth and morality - timeless morals that apply to every human being, regardless of age, race or religion. This to me is how you should read the bible and where the understanding of God comes from.

Mind you I'm openminded and in the process of researching to see if any other religions have principles that my heart agrees with more. I think everyone should take the time to at least glance over all the religions before they make a set in stone decision on which one they claim to be. I host myself as a Christian for now.. but am taking the time to learn more about Judaism, Islam, etc.

Perhaps I'll just end up as a Pastafarian.
