If those teachings are detrimental to society, I am all ears for the explanation. I understand that some call themselves Christians and then do not follow the teachings, but can you really blame the religion itself for fakes that claim to be a part of it but are not?

The Wiccan religion teaches everything you mentioned, and also acceptatance of EVERYONE, no matter what color, gender, sexual orientation you are.

Christianity may teach all of that, but where are the Christians who actually preach it?

I'm religious but I don't have the ignorance to think that my religion is correct about everything. I stay in my religion because it teaches good ideals and does good things for the world, not because of its specific views as to what's out there.

Let's say jesus never existed. Does that make the parables, stories, and lessons we learned from him any less good? Would the same feelings not wash over me when I read "Let him among you who has no sin cast the first stone"?

The answer is No. Sure people have used religion to commit atrocity after atrocity, but that doesn't mean it can't be used for good. There are evil people in this world who use religion to satisfy their greed, sure. To them religion is like a tool. Do you honestly think if took one tool away those people wouldn't find another one? We already have plenty of them using Government for much worse ends, no religion necessary.

I don't think it is the religion that is tearing anything down. It seems to me to be more the way it is manipulated to say what you want it to say. It is used to represent so many points of view.
Religion becomes a football and this "god" is like trump. If I play god on you I have proven myself right.

From what i know about god, i don't get the impression that he wants us running around killing each other and hating each other.

It's the people that use the bible to hide or distort facts that destroy civilization.

Nah. Overall it's been positive for our society. Think of what all these zealots might otherwise be doing without their little black books to tell them the difference between right and wrong.
