School District Bans Halloween
PUYALLUP - "Let them have their 30 minutes of dressing goofy and having candy," said Silas Macon on the grounds of Puyallup's Maplewood Elementary School Wednesday afternoon. He'd just learned the grade school tradition of a party and parade in costume during the last half-hour of class before Halloween night won't happen this year in the Puyallup School District for his two daughters. ------------- The district says Halloween celebrations and children dressed in Halloween costumes might be offensive to real witches. "Witches with pointy noses and things like that are not respective symbols of the Wiccan religion and so we want to be respectful of that," said Hansen. The Wiccan, or Pagan, religion is growing in the U.S. and there are Wiccan groups in Puyallup. Number eight on the district's guidelines related to holidays and celebrations reads as follows: "Use of derogatory stereotypes is prohibited, such as the traditional image of a witch, which is offensive to members of the Wiccan religion." Lameness, thine name is Wicca. Why the heck does anyone worry about offending a group of people that made up a religion half a century ago and decided to call themselves witches? This is PC absurdity at it's most blatantly-retarded.

I am starting a new religion called the legions of the p o'd. We are offended by the disingenuous statements by the democratic party that the recession and job losses were caused by George Bush. We insist that they cease and desist, as we are feeling put-upon, and may have to file charges that we are being marginalized and made to feel inferior.

What exactly is stopping people from declaring themselves to be of their own made up BS religion?
For instance, they can refuse to school their children deeming it to be a violation of their freedom of religion. This is getting sad. There has to be guidelines on what can be a religion and what can't be. Otherwise, this will eventually become the new excuse for any crime. "My religion told me so." |

... after all, those school board officials only want to make things in their little community peaceful and non-offensive. I for one was personally insulted each year when, at halloween, all these kids were dressed up as Freddy from Nightmare on Elm Street. Sure he was a fictional character and all, but I thought it was crude and tasteless to make fun of burn victims by dressing up like Freddy.
Even those kids who were dressing up like Jason were making fun of mutes all over the world. If mutes could talk about how they felt every halloween when they saw kids dressed up like Jason, they'd say... "__ ______ _______________, ____ ___ _______ _____!!" and they'd be justified in saying it too. No, I'm sorry folks but Halloween had to go.

next people won't be allowed to watch starwars or dress up as jedis at fancy dress incase they offend jedi knights who see light sabers as a "stereotype"
Jedi Knight is my religion (it is a legally registered religion in UK - im guessing US 2?) - i wouldn't be offended by stereotypes p.s - i don't have a light saber nor do i dress up, nor do i have starwars DVDs...it's just what i put down on my medical forms/insurance etc instead of 'atheist' |
