Whether or not you believe in simply the concept of "god(s)" or do not, what you have expressed is at the core of what I, as an independent thinker and "humanist", for lack of a better descriptive word, would advocate for all people religious or not to seriously consider and evaluate for themselves, as a personal philosophy.
I actually don’t believe in atheists. Seriously. I think there are two types of people in the world, those who love God and those who hate God. Either you look around at the incredible nature of existence and are drawn to God, or look at the world as such worthless place that you don’t want to have anything to do with its Creator.

It is personally unbelievable that someone could simply deny that an intelligence beyond our understanding is behind the development of a fertilized human egg into a child, the incredible beauty of stars being born from nebulae, or the Earth’s orbit that must be so precise that were it off by one percent none of us would be pondering anything. It seems that an “independent thinker” would find it a bit restricting to limit her/his thoughts to only those that exclude the arcane.
I really had to stop reading after your 2nd sentence, since you assume an Atheist actually thinks there are "god(s)".

What can I say to that? Nothing. Obviously you believe EVERYONE MUST BELIEVE there ARE "god(s)". Fine. No skin off my back. lol I just don't care
to convince anyone of anything, esp. as the given requires I'm lying! LOL!

Did you ever hear of Scientific Pantheism?

Google it.

I'm not even a Pantheist, I actually have no need to call what they call a "God", but to understand what that is, you'd have to read......

something. lol

It's rather funny. It's a selfl-fullfilling delusion you have that explains your view of anyone unlike you. Interesting, if only for a moment.

Know what??? I don't believe that there are any Conservatives, I think that everyone's a Liberal, or they just hate Liberals, really!!! Hmmmmm.
Time for my Meds! lol

You forgot to remind us that you’re an independent thinker in that last post. Of course your repetitive use of “lol” was equally sophomoric, so we’ll let it slide this time. I’m curious about some of these complex and unique thoughts you have developed to explain the nature of existence. Care to share any? My guess is that you’ve never had an original thought in your entire life.

So what you’re saying is that you’re not necessarily an independent thinker, rather someone who is a pantheist? I asked for an original thought. If you’re going to decry Christians as mindless sheep, you can't very well call yourself a pantheist and still maintain that you are an independent thinker. If you can muster up one of your unique and original thoughts that you seem to be so proud of I would still like to hear one. In the meantime, I have to run, so have a good evening.

Cool. But I'm an atheist, so your idea is a little..... unrealistic. I love this world and the people in it, and I do not hate any "creator" that people make up to believe in, I merely think there is no reason for there to neccessarily be a creator.

But reality simply does not match your perception. I enjoy the wonder of the world. I'm a sciencehead precisely because the universe is so awe-inspiring and amazing and cool to think about and study. I believe that humans are more good than not.

But I'm agnostic. Do I hate God? Hardly. I have simply concluded that trying to prove His/Her/Its existence is both futile and irrelevant. He may exist; he may not. I don't particularly care outside of sheer curiousity and "wouldn't it be mind-blowing" speculation. I do not need to believe or disbelieve in God to have a full life, surrounded by friends and family and wonder.

Fair enough, but be humble enough to consider that the problem may simply be a failure of imagination on your part.

Case in point. We're here, and looking backward you can examine the chain of events that led to our existence and think "it's a miracle!" But viewed from the outside, you can see our existence as the inevitable end result of the conditions that exist in the universe. If the universe were different it wouldn't have produced *us*, but it might well have produced some other form of life -- which in turn would look back and marvel at the miracle of *its* existence.

If nature required us to be round to reproduce, we'd all be round or we wouldn't exist. Looking backward and say "Wow. What luck that nature was designed to allow round people to reproduce" is merely misunderstanding the direction of causation.

I think their presence in these threads disproves the idea that nonbelievers exclude the arcane from their thoughts. Everyone thinks about it; some people just aren't convinced by the various brands of belief.

I now understand what is meant by “…because you are lukewarm, and neither hot nor cold, I will spit you out of My mouth” (Rev 3:16). People like you are worthless! You stand for nothing, believe in nothing and then wonder why the world is in the shape it is in. I honestly wish I could apologize for being so offensive after your conciliatory remarks, but that would make me equally as weak.

If you don’t have the mental fortitude to say definitively that you either believe God exists, or doesn’t exist, then shut up! Stop trying to hedge your bets by saying, “Well, it really can’t be proved, or disproved, so why bother talking about it?” Indecision is at the heart of Liberalism and what makes it detestable. Liberals wander through life in a haze of indifference and constantly try to convince others that their lack of conviction is preferable to offending others by taking a firm stance. Get a backbone!

Ah. This must be the loving Christian behavior I've heard so much about. Win a lot of converts with that, do you?

Ah. Being civil and respectful is "weak."

Consider this: Being a hard-liner for your belief requires nothing but fanaticism. It takes real strength and confidence to acknowledge the limits of your theology, and to respect those you disagree with.

The world is not binary. "I don't know" is a legitimate answer when, in fact, I don't know. Or are you saying it's a sign of "strength" to assert positive knowledge about something that I don't, in fact, have positive knowledge about?

Is there life on other planets? I'd say the odds favor it. But the only possible answer is "I don't know." Does that mean I lack mental fortitude?

How is that hedging my bets? Hedging my bets would be worshipping multiple gods in different belief systems, as people in ancient times used to do. I don't worship ANY gods.

And if you were paying attention, you'd notice that I enjoy a good theological discussion as much as any believer. Unanswerable questions are inherently fascinating. I just don't lose sleep over them.

So now I lack a backbone. All because I refuse to discount the existence of God without more evidence. Fascinating.

Stop being offensive or I will report you to the admin. I swear, man, be more open minded. You might learn something. It is a perfectly legitimate position to say that "I Don't Know" if God exists, and actually quite logical. The only difference between atheists like me and agnostics like him are that we (at least me) are quite sure that there is no god because it is an infinitely improbable logical possibility that god exists.

And now us liberals lack backbone? Right. Sure. And all conservatives are hate-mongering rascists and homophobes. It's just as true a statement.

I’m human and some things really get under my skin. In particular, people like you because your lack of conviction represents everything that is wrong with our country. Contrary to what Liberals believe, feeble mindedness is not something that should be touted as a badge of honor.
