Story to encourage the men of this country to get involved in protecting of those unable to protect themselves titled, " ABOVE THE SHADOW OF DOUBT" By GL

When I was a nurse working in geriatrics I was the voice for my patient who was unable often times to speak for themselves. I interceded on their behalf to their MD's regarding their symptoms and did my very best to provide the kind of care I would like to have when I am their age. When I was a nurse in geriatrics I was my patients advocate and watched over them as I would my own family members. I stood up for them when it would have been easier to just stay silent. I would like to tell you the story of one of those many times while I was a nurse in geriatrics. Before I do I would like to tell you that God has set in motion certain natural laws and one of those is that when we protect those less fortunate God protects us! It doesnt matter if your a Christian or not if you protect those who are weaker than you God in heaven protects you. Its just a natural law that no man can change. I have seen the opposite come true in life just as well. I have seen men who should know better not protect woman and children and I have seen the consequences of that decision in a very negative and devastating way. I have also seen men protect woman and children and the consequences of that decision being a positive one for all involved. Having laid that foundation I would like to tell you about something that happened to me one day while working in as a geriatric nurse.

One day in nursing I was very concerned about one of my little old people who had a wound that I was treating and I could not make any progress on that wound no matter what I tried to do to help her. The cna she had that day was not a very kind hearted cna and often was very mouthy and vicious and many staff members coward to her. I had given report to my cnas and had specifically asked this particular cna to be especially watchful of this patient because of her wound and explained that keeping her clean and dry and repositioned was of extreme importance to wound healing in this case. Later when doing my medication pass I noticed that she needed to be cleaned up and repositioned and I asked her cna to go and take care of her. She did not. I went back a short time afterward and the patient was still in the same situation and I again stopped the cna and told her how important it was that she care for her now. She stomped by me and into patients room and pulled the curtain around her and stomped out. I just shook my head and knew what I had to to do. I went in and cleaned the patient and repositioned her and gathered my equipment for treating her wound. It was customary back then to take a polaroid picture of the wound and measure for documentation purposes. I took the picture and the only thing in the background was the curtain that is pulled around her bed for privacy. I went back to my nurses station to finish the documentation and to writeup my cna for poor nursing care. Just as I finished writing her up she approached the station. I stood up and told her what I was doing and I knew what was going to happen. It was just as I suspected she was livid and she yelled and foamed and spew words and saliva and hair went flying. That is just slightly exaggerated. It was unpleasant to say the least but something that was necessary since my patient is dependent on care and unable to care for herself. The cna stomped off. I sat back down relieved it was over. I then reached for the polaroid I had taken of my patients wound and I was shocked to say the least. In the background of my patients picture was the face of an very elderly white haired and white bearded man. I just could not believe it. It was not a faint picture it was very pronounced and even amazing. I took the photo around to the other cnas who by now had heard of the confrontation between the mean cna and myself and they too where shocked at the photo.

We all agreed that we had been touched by something other worldly that day. I would have kept the photo except that it was not mine to keep and because of privacy laws I just put it in the wound book with all the others but often went and looked at it. I would like to let you know that the cna did not last long at our facility and because of her rough and calous care to patients was terminated shortly afterward. What a miracle. When we protect those unable to protect themselves God protects us.

Imagine that God loves you so much that He sees you praying and scared and reaches down to take the Bible you so tightly hold onto because it offers some feelings of safety and replaces it with the Living Word, Himself.

Imagine that God loves you so much that even though the person on your right and on your left are cursing you that in that moment His touch lights up your heart and spirit and your face glows with His love.

Imagine that God loves you so much that every wrong turn taken, every bad decision made, every dark road you take in life still brings you back to Him.

Imagine that God loves you so much that even the staunchest, most educated, severely adament atheist starts to believe there is a God because of His love for you.

Imagine that God loves you so much that despite all manner of hardship and troubles, even poverty or disgrace He crowns you with a crown bearing the words "mercy" and "love" and at that moment evil strong-holds, satonic powers and principalities fall like leaves on your right and left.

IMAGINE THAT!
