It was actually a really brilliant idea. When you actually hear the stories, they inspire you in a way if you put yourself in a norsemans shoes. Think of it. Gods fight to protect their home, and die for it. Doesnt it feel good to know you are the same as a God? You both stand and fight for your belief, and stand against those who are your enemies. That you just like a God can die. Really good battle buffer, to feel you are just like a God in being mortal. It also shows that even the gods had to prove themselves worthy to make it to Valhalla. No one is above the supreme law. You die in honorable battle, you go to Valhalla. Even gods have to follow that rule. That is why I love Nordic Mythology.
