21% of aheists believe in god
Doesn't it say something about a movement if such a large part of it doesnt even know what its about?

It doesn't matter: scientific fact has refuted the Bible, completely. The Bible has been proved wrong over and over again, not only on science and fact and logic and history, but also on morality (read Joshua if you doubt it). You don't need a poll to tell you the Biblical God has no basis in reality, anymore than you need a poll to tell you what two plus two equals. |

So, at best, these atheists are most likely just self-described and are really just Christians trying to "get back" at God. Plus: this study does not describe its methodology at all, so, I'd take its results with more than a few grains of salt. |

If someone believes in God, then they're not an atheist, whether they call themselves one or not. Simple as that.

Atheism is simply the lack of belief in a God. In other words, the opposite of a religion. Atheism is also not against religion, that would be anti-theism. Sure there are some atheists who are also anti-theists, but they are two separate concepts.

Looking at the data helps. 12 percent of those 21 believe in an impersonal force, which can basically mean anything, including kharma, and 3 percent say they don't know. That both still qualifies as atheist. The remaining 6% are weird though.
They also didn't give the actual question, which might have ranged from:"Do you believe in a God?" to "Do you consider the existence of a God possible?" Might account for the 6%. Edit: Mormons are the only ones with a perfect score, although even they have 2% "Don't know/Other". And "Don't know" is weak atheism. Last edited by James Blood; 03-09-2009 at 08:35 AM. |
