Default Some questions on Christianity

I'm a Jew who goes to a Catholic university. I recently discovered that if I ever was to convert to Christianity I would be a catholic because I could not accept the protestant belief of faith alone for salvation, as luther taught. But here are a few questions NO ONE, even priests have been able to properly answer.

The Jewish Messiah is suppoed to bring peace on earth. Jesus was proclaimed the messiah. But there is not peace on earth? I'm confused.

Why am I punished for the sins/mistakes of Adam and Even, people I have never known and who lived so long ago?

What does it mean that Jesus died for our sins?

If I sound condescending, I don't mean to. Thats simply how the question ended up being phrased.

Thanks

Default No thats a fair question

Its more so held that the Resurection of Jesus will hearld the whole era of peace and salvation.
Original sin is held to be the species fault because Adam and Eve are to represent the ancestors of mankind, basically what they did effected us and every generation had that mark upon their souls.
Jesus dies to save us from this through his suffering.

Can i ask would you be fairly regious or secular in your judaism? I don't want to offend, just im interested. Ive read the Bible, the Koran and the Tao Te Ching so far and id be just interested on your beliefs and reasons for them.

Those are some pretty tough questions for laypersons to attempt to answer. I suggest through prayer and study, you can find the answers, or perhaps you already know a person you trust to ask.

I must correct the notion that protestants believe faith alone can save.

This is a wonderful link to the different Bible translations. You may be surprised where faith will lead you.

Default Personally

I find Protestantism to lay too literal an interpretation upon the Bible and to little on being a good person.

That's just a myth not based on The Bible. Jesus claims to have come to bring not peace but division.

I am come to send fire on the earth; and what will I, if it be already kindled? But I have a baptism to be baptized with; and how am I straitened till it be accomplished! Suppose ye that I am come to give peace on earth? I tell you, Nay; but rather division.

Saul/Paul thinks he explained it in Romans--one guy made us all bad so Jesus died cuz it took one guy to make us all good again. So much for this all-powerful God who couldn't see clear to just wave his magic wand and make it so without killing off Junior.

The Old Testament is chock full of stories about how God dealt directly with humans. In the NT, he sent Junior to run interference so that God wouldn't have to anymore. John's Gospel does say that there's no way to God except thru Jesus. Junior the bouncer and erstwhile screening secretary so that God himself won't be bothered.
