Did we start a massacre of innocent people? Did we over throw the government? Did we attempt to destroy others religions? 'Cause as far as i can see, we are the only ones getting attacked. Other religions please respond: Why do you hate us so much?
We should rename this forum: Come Here for Free Cheap Shots at Christians!

I dislike how when I state my beliefs to the 'christian majority'(note: most christians I meet.) I'm told that I'm wrong.
Who in the blue hell is anyone to tell me I'm wrong about my beliefs? Have I run into this with anyone from any other belief structure IE practicing shinto/buddhist/hindu and pegans they say that's interesting tell me more. |

If you profess to being a Christian, and are not being attacked, you must be
hiding it. " If you are reviled for the name of Christ, you are blessed, because the Spirit of glory and of God rests on you." (1 Peter 4:14) I always smile and say "thank You" . Old Eskimo proverb: "When you throw a rock into a pack of dogs, the one that barks the loudest, is the one that got hit." |

I don't care if you are a Buddhist, Shintoist, Daoist, Hindu, Muslim, Pagan, or Christian. What gets on my nerves is when people try to force me to agree with their religious beliefs. Therefore, I get mad at the Religious Right for trying to turn America into a theocracy and corrupt the secular ideals this great country was founded upon. Those who support the recent installment of "Under god" in the Pledge and "In God We Trust" as the national motto (as opposed to the original motto, "E Pluribus Unum", "Out of many, one") are the TRUE unamericans. Those like Senator Bill Frist, speaking to extreme rightwing evangelical and fundamentalist Christian crowds in a political rally trying to do all they can to drive out the WRETCHED unbelievers, and persecuting them (*)(*)(*)(*) unnatural homosexuals while ignoring serious issues like the fact that 45 million americans currently cannot afford healthcare are the TRUE betrayers of the people. What I find funny is how people like Dick Cheney can be socially conservative while some of their closest relations are with gay people. Freaks me out to see stupidity like that.
Secular societies have always been the most successful and the most free. As they get more and more religious, freedoms fail and more effort gets spent towards "saving souls" than the well-being of the world. That is why I hate ultra-conservative Christians who actually care about me being an atheist. On the other hand, I love liberal Christians. My mom and stepdad are Quakers, and I feel at home among people such as them. I recently went to a Quaker conference and protested along with members of their Religious Society of Friends supporting gay rights. I feel at home among them. So don't say I hate Christians. I don't. I hate stupidity in all of its forms. |

Quote:
Let's start with the bad news first. Yes. Christians burned over 1 Million innocent women at the stake for being witches. (That's the number I recall reading somewhere.) Yes. The Crusades overthrew lots of governments, and it also began a period in the Middle East in which for the fir time in many hundreds of years, Jews and Arabs living side by side were then bent on fighting each other. Yes. The Christians persecuted people of other religions. Fransican Monks, Jews, etc. And lastly, (and this is my personal favorite!) The Christians whom were in power in Europe, kept mankind in the "dark ages" or dumb and stupid, if you prefer, for about 1600 years. OPPPS! I almost forgot stem cells, and the current attempt to turn the clock backwards 2000 years. OK. Enough of that. Everyone has a bad side. Now for the good news! There is a vast difference between Evangelistic Christians a.k.a. the Christian Right, and the VAST MAJORITY of Christians, whom have reported to me that they not only feel that the Christian Right is an embarrasment to them, but that they actually dislike them, as they (the C.R.) are causing many people to dislike ALL Christians. So, we can say that the first good thing is that any intelligent person recognizes that there is a vast difference between not only what each group believes, but how each group behaves. This Atheist has OFTEN had more "normal" Christian friends, than friends of ither religons or not of any religion. In short, the Christians that the vast majority of people in the U.S. grew up with were entirely different from this new breed of Christian extremists. Which leads to the next bit of good new... Christians as a whole are not extremists, and only an idiot would say something that stupid. Now, would the non-extremist Christians of today burn women at the stake? That's rather unlikely. Would the non-extremist Christians of today insist that everyone must say "under God". Nope. Would the non-extremist Christians of today insist that stem cell research be devistated? Nope. Would the non-extremist Christians of today insist that a monument with the 10 Commandments be planted outside a Courthouse? Nope. Would the non-extremist Christians of today shoot Doctors that perform Abortions and blow-up Abortion Clinics? Nope. Would the non-extremist Christians of today be involved in Sects that perform mass suicide? Nope. The list goes on and on. Now if you're a Christian extremist, then your gonna take the punches that are dished out, in return for the extremist Christian Agenda. On the other hand, if your in the vast majority of Christians, then only a moron would not make that distinction, and would claim there's no difference. It is a mistake to lump all Christians in a single group and apply the same Agenda to all Christians. On the other hand, it is human to make mistakes when posting about a specific group of Christians, and not repetitively qulify that the group being referred to is the Christian Right, and not all Christians. It's useful to ask someone posting that uses no qualifying words, or is not entirely obvious in referring to an Agenda of the Christian-Right, if they mean all Christians, or the C.R. which I find is entirely appropriate to also refer to asa Christian Extremists, or Christian Evangelists. Although some would debate at least the later of the two. However, I've never heard of any 700 Club members that are closet Liberals! And I should say BTW. that there are extremist Atheists that inisist that "under god" NOT be said by anyone in a public school. And I should add that of the few Atheists, the number of extremists are quite small. Personally, I've never met one. |

On the other hand, all you've got to do is turn on the News and watch 2 people identifying themselves as Christians, saying kids shouldn't watch Harry Potter because "if the practice Witchcraft they'll go to Hell!"
It's those kinds of intelligent statements that tend to get ppl to lump all Christians in the nutcase category, and tell em: "Take your Meds!" Hearing some stupid moron talking about witchraft in 2005, makes me wonder when some Christians are gonna start burning "witches" again! It would seem that old habits die hard, and an example of why Christians are the target of educated people. Unfortunately, the morons that are trying to turn the clock back a few thousand years are making the lives of the vast majority of Christians somewhat inconvenient. Regardless of what school of Christianity you come from, there is a significant degree of myticism that one is expected to accept as fact, e.g. Heaven, Hell, Satan, Devils, Goblins, Dragons, etc. etc. etc. For the non-Christian, or even 95% of Scientists, listening to people say this stuff can bring on a migrane, as no one should be expected to be so gullible. Still, I can tolerate that stuff, but when it comes to re-rating Harry Potter, because of witchcraft, it makes me wanna puke on someone's head! |

The Crusades, Spanish Inquisition, Ku Klux Klan, constant assault of other religions, segregation, extremist propoganda against homosexuals and abortion, and illegalization of gay marriage. I have nothing against Jesus because Allah embraces him, so he must be good. Christians shot themselves in the foot is all.
