If this is the case, wouldn't unsubstantiated, univited and unwelcomed comments directedagainst certain religions be equally unacceptable? Or is, as you have suggested, bigotry against Christianity still socially acceptable? So it would seem.

All I seek is a level playing field--that all person's views be equally respected; that enforcements prohibiting insults against one group be equally enforced against all groups; that continued personal insults against persons, based solely on their religious convictions, be exposed for what it is--bigotry; and that this endless and very personal condemnation of persons, based solely on their religious convictions, cease.

For an example, I would cite broad and totally unsubstantiated comments such as, "Christians shove their religious views down others throats" as an example of religious bigotry. The post was totally out of context to the thread, and even caught others be surprise. No one was talking about religion, but for some reason, a person felt compelled to slam a faith. When you allow people's personal religious convictions to be mocked and ridiculed, you are as guilty of bigotry as the very worst Southern redneck rascist who ever lived.

I am sick and tired of responding to each and every personal religious insult posted on this site, day, after day, after day. Fact is, I usuually ignore them, there are so many. The only time religion ever comes up is when someone like me responds to some one else's post making a religious insult. In other words, I don't bring the subject up--others do through their continueous insults directed particularly at the Christian faith.

That comment was contained in a private message to you, in response to your private message to me.

I'm not ashamed of the comment; far from it. It's not libelous nor slanderous nor insulting nor bigoted.

But it's a serious breach of board etiquette to quote the contents of a private message without permission.

As to your "level playing field remark": Please point to the last time a post was edited for insulting a group. Only *personal* attacks are edited. We will delete obvious flamebait, but generally as long as you keep it mostly clean and relatively civil you can say anything you want about anybody. That's as level a field as you get.

A comment such as "Christians shove their religious views down others throats" is not bigotry. It ought to be preceded by the word "some", but other than that it's an opinion that does not judge the underlying value of Christians or Christianity. "Christians are subhumans" would be bigotry.

Finally, I'm not your host. I'm merely one of several *volunteer* moderators on this site. If you think I'm not doing my job properly, bring it up with the other moderators or PoliticalForum himself.

I did not realize I was breaking some sacred code by copying one sentence from a private email. Honestly, it never occurred to me anyone would object. I certainly wouldn't object to anything I ever wrote in an email being made public. I wear no masks. I apologize if I broke a rule or compromised any trust. It was done only out of ignorance, not malice.

Be that as it may, I still object to the double standard being applied. I object to the constant slamming of a person's individual faith, especially when that person's faith is private, not proselytized, and criticized solely out of spite.

My personal view is that the thread about Catz was completely out place and should have been removed, which is why I refuse to post to it.

Barney, I would say that verbal slams against Christianity should be received with grace and humor. Our job is to heal, not to rip a new one (Gospel of Bob 1:1) Love and compassion is what makes the world go round (Gospel of Bob 1:2)

If everyone looked after the person to their left and their right, we would be not be having all these troubles in the world.
