Because that would've been stupid. We're the same people, from the same country. Why would we want to split up? Just because there is some opposition? Many countries have internal opposition, ie, like Russia (some of it is even armed), and those countries problems are much worse then Ukraine's.
What foreigners usually don't understand is, people who voted for pro Russia
thought it would be better for Ukraine if we were closer to them, and people who voted for pro west
thought it would be better for Ukraine if we were closer to them.
During events like the world cup, for example, the entire country supports Ukraine; From Luhans'k to L'viv. All of us are Ukrainians first, and our political ideologies come in second. Regardless of where we're living in Ukraine.
