Default Russian faces Litvinenko charge/Murder

Russian faces Litvinenko charge

Alexander Litvinenko died in hospital from radiation poisoning

A former KGB officer should be charged with the murder of Alexander Litvinenko, the director of public prosecutions has recommended.
Sir Ken Macdonald told a news conference that Andrei Lugovoi should face trial.

Mr Litvinenko, a critic of Russian President Vladimir Putin, died in London in November after exposure to the radioactive isotope polonium-210.

Mr Lugovoi has strongly denied being involved with the poisoning.

Sir Ken said Mr Litvinenko's death was an "extraordinarily grave crime".

Lord Goldsmith, the Attorney General, said he agreed with the decision by the Crown Prosecution Service, which had been arrived at after consultation with him.

'Public interest'

Mr Litvinenko, who was granted political asylum in the UK in 2000 and went on to take British citizenship, died at University College Hospital on 23 November 2006.

I have instructed CPS lawyers to take immediate steps to seek the early extradition of Andrei Lugovoi from Russia

Sir Ken Macdonald

Sir Ken told the press conference: "I have today concluded that the evidence sent to us by the police is sufficient to charge Andrei Lugovoi with the murder of Mr Litvinenko by deliberate poisoning.

"I have further concluded that a prosecution of this case would clearly be in the public interest.

"In those circumstances, I have instructed CPS lawyers to take immediate steps to seek the early extradition of Andrei Lugovoi from Russia to the United Kingdom, so that he may be charged with murder - and be brought swiftly before a court in London to be prosecuted for this extraordinarily grave crime."

Be intresting to see if Russia will risk giving over what is almost assuredly a person involved in a Russian State sanctioned assassination on British Soil.

Default ?

Yep.....this is bad. Not to mention all the other journalists who criticized Putin and his administration that were mysteriously killed or died.

Bush's judgement of Putin back in 2001 was way off. The guy's still a little KGBer at heart.

Default My girlfriend, she loves the taste of communion wafers.

Sure looks that way, and those who were concerned that an ex KGB agent was elected were rightly concerned. Looks like Putin duped a few people including Bush.

Default .

Who cares what the son of an ex-CIA spymaster thinks. Amazing how the folks here criticise Russia for electing a spymaster while ignoring what, their royal family, the McBushies are all about. Not to mention the rise of domestic USA spying, you all sound like you really them, .

I doubt that Russia will be handing over their FSB agents to the UK . The down side to high oil costs, those high prices empower Russia.

Default Bloody Red

Putins is still a bloody red. For those of you who know me well enough, this is a grave insult.

That's because most of us don't believe in your far left conspiracy theories about Bush.

Really? Russia voted him in? Thanks for the news, I didn't know. They can vote in whomever they like and others can express concern. It's called freedom of speech. Also part of a democracy.

Your comparisons of the the KGB infested Russia to the USA homeland security is either absolutely criminal or the puss filled mother lode of ignorance !! You cannot in any stretch of lies or imgination compare the murder of 35-50 million people by Russian barbarism to a handful of arrests made by the USA for homeland security.

You are in dire need of an education. Please go forth and get one!!!1
