Also Friday, Russia -- which has not recognized Kosovo's sovereignty -- said it has not ruled out using force to resolve the dispute over the territory if NATO forces breach the terms of their U.N. mandate.

"If the EU works out a single position or if NATO steps beyond its mandate in Kosovo, these organizations will be in conflict with the U.N., and then I think we will also begin operating under the assumption that in order to be respected, one needs to use force," Moscow's ambassador to NATO Dmitry Rogozin said, in comments carried by Russia's Interfax news agency.

A spokesman for Russia's Foreign Ministry warned that Kosovo's declaration would have a "negative impact."

"What happened in Belgrade yesterday is regrettable. But we would want to draw your attention to the fact that the forces that supported the unilateral recognition of Kosovo's independence should have realized the effects of the move," spokesman Mikhail Kamynin told Interfax.
I believe them.

If not Kosovo they will act elsewhere. Georgia for example...and probably soon. Then theres China...etc etc

Russians will not react in Kosovo, because there won't be any major conflict in Kosovo. And Serbia is pretty far from Russia, also surrounded by US military bases. Do not expect Russian military involvement in the Kosovo crysis.

Georgia is different. It is Russia's backyard. Force is not excluded.

There is not practical gain for either US or Russia, which is why I don't think either side will take military action. This will be a little mini Cold War.

Direct military involvement is not nesessary. Trained guerrilla warriors would be more effective.

This is necessary b/c we American's have said we will support Democractic revolutions for people who have been oppressed. We have to also show the Islamic world that the same applies to them.

Us Yanks are gonna stick to our guns on this one...

Although I hope we stick to our smarts next time instead of guns.

Do you mean a Russian trained insurgency?

If we fail to represent the smaller countries vying for political independence then every nation can point out our blatant avoidance of our own values. Our hippocracy will be a discrepancy that we cannot avoid or argue.
At the same time, russia's assuredness in her own subtelty will likely lead to an open show of goodwill towards the kosovoans, or at least a reluctant acceptance. Behind the scenes, however, will likely take place poorly disguised geurilla attacks on key political leaders and military personell, if not to bring them back into the fold, then to prove a point to other would-be seperatists.

Then let us defend those governments which deserve our respect, which there are many in the world today, not this one in Kosovo.
