Default U.S. Ambassador to Serbia Angered

So, why in the world do we EVER do anything to help out the rest of the world??? It's always the U.S. that gets called on by the UN, NATO, the EU and other countries to help out militarily when they are having a problem. Then---when it's all over, they totally abandon us. Perhaps it's time for the rest of the world to take care of their OWN freaking problems!!! The U.S. is always (*)(*)(*)(*)ed if they do; and (*)(*)(*)(*)ed if they don't!!! And I'm personally getting rather sick of that ungrateful attitude.

U.S. ambassador angered by Serb violence

U.S. ambassador to Serbia calls for better protection after embassy attacked

BELGRADE, Serbia (CNN) -- The United States' ambassador to Serbia on Sunday called on the country's leaders to do more to protect foreign diplomatic missions after the U.S. Embassy was attacked by protesters demonstrating against Kosovo's declaration of independence.

Serbs opposed to Kosovo's independence storm the U.S. Embassy in Belgrade Thursday.

"I'm very angry at what happened," Ambassador Cameron Munter said of the riots Thursday when protesters smashed windows and set fire to part of the building, The Associated Press reported. "It had better not happen again."

The U.S. Embassy has evacuated all of its nonessential personnel and their families after protesters, a spokesman told CNN.

"The response on Thursday was clearly insufficient, not just to our embassy, but to the embassies of other countries," spokesman Bill Wanlund said.

"In addition to the U.S. Embassy, protesters attacked other Western interests including the embassies of Britain and Germany, as well as a McDonald's restaurant and Nike shop."

The demonstrations in Belgrade that day were peaceful, even though more than half a million people were in the streets.

But the true question is: why did Serbian police take so long to respond? Almost 40 minutes after gathering of some 100 hooligans in front of US Embassy...! Too much time, by all means...

I start to believe that this one was ON PURPOSE! And someone gave the green light for that. Someone from outside... Who? Yet to be discovered....

JP5,

I too am deeply angered whenever America gets disrespected by a foreign nation.

The question is, how do we punish serbia for their lack of respect towards our great nation.

Is a trade embargo enough, or is a bombing campaign in order?

We are reopening ambassador relations on Tuesday, at least some advisor in the White House knows what they're doing.

We have a paradox situation now: Americans will reopen their embassy on Tuesday, and Serbia withdrew her ambassador to USA because of US recognition of Kosovo independence.

Yeah, but what's Serbia gonna do, to assist with this???

Are we really going to let the Serb government get away with allowing this? Is that the kind of limp-wristed impression we're going to give the world? Beat us up, and we won't protect ourselves...we'll just cry and run home to mama. What a bunch of namby-pambies.

This is crap. We should have paratrooped a platoon of heavily-armed marines into our embassy, to assure its safety. It's pretty obvious that's the only safety we'd get anyway.

EDIT: Now, the McDonald's? They can level that place, for all I care. Their burgers aren't made of cows anyway.

Yes, but Russian response would be immediate. USA should forget military involvement in the Balkans. Boris Yeltsin is long gone, and another man sits in Kremlin now. And you don't want to try and play him around, do you?

If we fail to arm the interior of the embassy with more marines this time, I would say we had it coming to us. Security measures are being taken care of, we don't just send an ambassador into a country where radicals want to kill him because our involvment in their affairs.

How many times can it be stressed - Kosovo would still be 'independent' with the backing of the foremost powers in the EU. The US could have prevented this very easily. When we jump into something like this, we are the first to be blamed because we are the most powerful and influential. 'If you can't take the heat, get out of the kitchen.'

Now lets talk real business.

I wonder why Serbian police did not react in time, as they reacted the day before and chased away the hooligans? It looks like a bit of conspiracy, don't you think?

By the way, Serbian Minister of internal affairs (chief of police) is heavily injured in a car accident and is in hospital now. I guess he wouldn't have let this happen in the first place....
