Quote:
Nobody is arguing that Kosovo hadn't been controlled by Serbs for a few hundred years.
We were arguing whether it was the "cradle" of Serbia, as opposed to the second place that was conquered by the Serbs. And we were talking a bit about how much that lost battle means to you guys.

In the very battle, the Serbs stood in front of the Turks will all they had (manpower). It was a clash of muslim Asia versus christian Europe. The very best in Serbian society was killed that day, including all of the nobility. That battle is a symbol of fighting back invaders, no matter what form or shape they have.
But the most important is the significance of that battle throughout 500 years of Ottoman invasion. The stories and songs of Kosovo preserved Serbian national being and the very identity. The vast majority of Serbs never converted to islam because of the Kosovo legend.
When we talk of Kosovo as a cradle of Serbian nation, we talk not of the first place being conquered by the Serbs. We talk of songs, stories, legends of bravery, strenght, religion, something that identifies Serbian face.
