Kosovo has received 13 F16's from the US. The two modern aircraft fighters will have a tough time completing their tasks without breaking Serbia's, Montenegro, Albania or Macedonia's airspace due to their tough maneuvering.
Meantime, a Russian military commander who asked for anonymity has confirmed that Russia is modernizing Serbia's Mig 29 fleet. He added, 'for Kosovo Mig29 would have been a better choice than the F16.'

As for the quoted bit did the Russians actually say that? What country would be dumb enough to rely on getting military arms, replacement parts and supplies from a country that opposes their right to exist?

What Serbian Mig29 fleet are you talking about? Serbia has 2 or 3 Mig29s... If you call that a fleet.. well then

Not sure why we need to arm them with F-16s at all.

I mean, the planes that Russia wants to arm Serbia with are only Russian aircraft right? No stealth to stop our missiles. So we should just arm Kosovo with ground-based air defenses. Then they can ignore those Mig29s as if they didnt exist.

Not so simple SS. While missile systems are getting better and Russian planes aren't stealthy by flying in low on a route the radar systems have a hard time seeing (for example due to Kosovos topography) you could get an old propeller plane through a missile defense system.

Generally you want an armed eye in the sky to deal with such threats.

Also lacking the ability to counterattack puts you in a bad position.

Finally if they're willing to actually pay for them eventually it's a good deal for the US.

FAS lists it's speed as supersonic. And Pakistan has used it to shoot down at least one Mig-21 as far as I know.

Why? If the goal is to destroy incoming Russian planes, a combination of SAMs and scattered clusters of stinger missiles should be sufficient.

Besides, they will have the ability to retaliate by proxy. If that becomes necessary.

Dont get me wrong. I am definitely not opposed to selling the Kosovars fighters. I am just saying that considering how weak the opposing technology is, they may not even need the fighters.
