An ''election'' when the current President choses his successor and then forbids media access to the other candidates is in my mind a road to dictatorship. Especially when that former President stays in power behind the scenes to play the puppetmaster after his guy gets ''elected''.
Putin is a dictator, no matter how popular he can be. Tito was popular too and when he died all Yugoslavia mourned him. That doesn't mean he was a great democrat, far from it.
G7 was designed so all the leading democracies with the strongest economies can get together to get things done. When you have one of its members working against the others, it becomes unproductive. G7 is not a place to settle old rivalries like Russia is doing. So Russia should leave to make room for more cooperative members.
