Who payed taxes for you? Who gave you subventions? Who invested in Kosovo? Who gave money so that you could have social security and health insurance? Huh?

Yugoslavia's motto used to be "brotherhood and unity". But it was also meant to be a country of equality. This whole idea was beautiful - but in the real world, this was far from the truth. Esp when it came to the Albanian Kosovars, as they had nothing in common with the Slavs. Their rights were constantly denied; the right to exist freely of oppression, the right to carry on cultural heritage, own parliament etc - hence the demonstrations the followed during the late 60's.

It was due to those demonstrations when things started to change for the Albanian Kosovars;


* The University of Pristina is founded in Kosovo as a bilingual institution for majority Albanians and minority Serbs (1970 )

* Kosova is given autonomy in 1974
* Ethnic Albanians are free to establish their own parliament, as well as legal and education systems.

As we know, this was shortly lived. When Milosevic came to power, Kosova's autonomy was revoked, and the rights which the Albanian Kosovars enjoyed having were also taken away from them. Yet again Kosova had become a police state run by Belgrade.
