War crimes suspect arrested in Serbia

BELGRADE, Serbia - Wartime Bosnian Serb security chief Stojan Zupljanin was arrested on Wednesday and will be sent to the United Nations tribunal in The Hague for trial on charges of war crimes, a spokesman for the prosecutor's office said.

"Stojan Zupljanin was arrested today near Belgrade ... police and security agents took part in the operation. He should be extradited to the Hague in the next 72 hours," said Bruno Vekaric, spokesman for Serbia's special war crimes prosecutor's office.

He said Zupljanin was found at an apartment about 8 km from the centre of Belgrade and will be taken to an investigative judge at the war crimes court in Belgrade before he is sent abroad.

A spokeswoman for the prosecution at the U.N. war crimes tribunal in the Hague confirmed his arrest.

Zupljanin, a commander in the city of Banja Luka during the 1992-95 Bosnia war, is charged with killing Muslim and Croat civilians.

He was one of four top fugitives indicted by the Hague and still at large 13 years after the war ended. Their arrest and handover has been a condition for Serbia's advancement towards membership of the European Union.

Good thing is that Serbia does arrest and extradite her war criminals. Unlike some other areas in the neighborhood that have those very criminals in the highest government positions.

Yes, over a decade later. And Karadzic and Mladic and their likes are still out there, living their lives as if nothing happened.

As for your second sentence, Haradinaj was found not guilty of all charges of of war crimes. He even turned himself in when he was indicted - unlike various Serbs.
