EDIT

It was the Ottomans who supported Byzantium against Rome. Just like the Serbs helped Ottomans to go to Wien.

yup. Once the Western Roman Empire fell to the barbarians of europe, Roman traditions and religion (Eastern Orthodox Catholics) were kept alive by the Eastern Roman empire (aka Byzantium).

Heck even the title of Caesar survived into the 20th century.. the Russian Czar.

Just a little correction: there is no such thing as an orthodox catholic.

Christianity became the official religion of the Roman empire (including Byzantia as the Eastern part) under Constantin (born in Naissus, or Nis - today's Serbian city, the one in which NATO dropped cluster bombs on a market and a hospital) in 313 - the so called Edict of Milan.

But the division between the Eastern and Western Roman empire cumulated in 1054 - that is the year of the of the official religion division. The Eastern empire (Byzantia) became Orthodox Christian, and the Western empire (under the pope) became Catholic.

meehh... correct me if I'm wrong, but anyone that recognizes the Pope is a Catholic.

yes?

well anyhoo regardless. Eastern Orthodox traditions and ceremonies are actually closer to the the christianity that the Romans practiced.

I meant Orthodox in the Cristian Orthodox sense, not "orthodox" like "fundamental" or something like that. What I wanna say is this: in Christianity, you can either be Orthodox or Catholic.

But if you used the term orthodox as an adjective, referring to fundamental catholic, then it is acceptable.

And yes, Christian orthodox church and its traditions and practices are much closer to the basic type of Christianity.

It's amazing that you are still fighting wars from centuries ago. Why not start with things at least in THIS century?

So, what are the issues there anyway? Is it about religion, race, or land? I always thought in the late 1990's ,at least, it was about the KLA coming in and stirring things up. Were you not living in relatively good harmoney until then? Some of you from there, please explain this to me. And start with more recent times, please. Thanks...

Historia magistra vitae est - History is the teacher of life.

I am fighting no past wars, I'm just pointing out some historically relevant facts, which can provide basic understanding of this region's tensions.
