After Kosovo independence, Balkans has a bright future

After the independence of Kosovo, "the borders of the Balkans are resolved and this region can build a sustainable future by pursuing a policy of integration in the European family," said former US special envoy for Kosovo status, Ambassador Frank Wisner, during a lecture at the National Committee on American Foreign Policy, in New York.

"Now, since the issues of borders in the Balkans are concluded, this territory has a chance to build a promising future. Europe has a new map of the Balkans and it shall begin its work to bring all European countries in one harmonious family. This an important issue for the United States and NATO," said Wisner.

"With the finalization of the independence of Kosovo, NATO can look forward to an exit strategy in the future. This will not occur in a short period of time, because both sides need to maintain a peaceful environment until they are both certain on security issues. Kosovo needs to establish a professional defense force, that it is capable to protect its sovereign interests and NATO is committed to help to establish this military force," said Wisner.

Concerning the situation in Serbia, the American Ambassador added that "superstitious disagreements regarding the issue of Kosovo has caused Serbia to lose its focus on its interior issues, particularly in the implementation of many vital reforms as an important step for European integration."

"Kosovo's neighborly relationship with Serbia is going to be rocky until Serbia takes a peaceful attitude, accepts the fact that Kosovo is independent and until Serbia quits playing with politics of chaos by blaming others," emphasized Ambassador Frank Wisner in his lecture.

Frank Wisner couldn't be more than right. It's time for Serbia to face the reality and take responsibility for her actions, and stop blaming everyone else around her.

I'm glad my country (Britain) played its part in putting an end to the etnic cleansing the Serbs were practicing there.
