And not only in mythology but also in today's politics.
London is represented by a Dragon. Moscow is slaying that Dragon. Considering Russia's effort to drive the British officials (aka Reptilians) out of the country, Saint George vs Dragon is pretty symbolic I think. ![]() ![]() In Christian hagiography Saint George (ca. 275-281 – April 23, 303[2]) was a soldier in the Guard of Emperor Diocletian in the Roman Empire, venerated as a martyr. Saint George is one of the most venerated saints in the Eastern Orthodox Church, Oriental Orthodox Churches, and the Eastern Catholic Churches. He is immortalised in the tale of George and the Dragon and is one of the Fourteen Holy Helpers. His memorial is celebrated on 23 April. St. George is the patron saint of Aragon, Catalonia, England, Ethiopia, Georgia, Greece, Palestine, Portugal, and Russia, as well as the cities of Amersfoort, Beirut, Bteghrine, Cáceres, Ferrara, Freiburg, Genoa, Ljubljana, Lod and Moscow, as well as a wide range of professions, organisations and disease sufferers. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Saint_George Russia orders British Council to close all regional offices ![]() MOSCOW, December 12 (RIA Novosti) - Russia has officially demanded that the British Council close its Yekaterinburg and St. Petersburg offices from January 1, 2008 over legal status violations. "Until a legal basis has been established for the council's activities, its work in St. Petersburg and Yekaterinburg should be suspended as from January 1, 2008," the Russian Foreign Ministry said on Wednesday, following a meeting between a deputy foreign minister and the British ambassador. However, a British embassy spokesman indicated that the U.K. would not adhere to the order, saying: "Any action against the British Council would constitute a serious breach of international law." U.K. Foreign Secretary David Miliband slammed Russia's decision in parliament on Wednesday, saying its actions were very serious and illegal. Miliband also said the only two countries which had previously banned the British Council were Myanmar and Iran. He expressed the hope that Russia would not join their ranks. The British Council, whose Russian offices were raided by tax police in 2004, has been involved in three years of legal wrangling with authorities over alleged non-payment of tax and questions over its legal status. http://en.rian.ru/world/20071212/92141950.html

I know how St.George became the patron saint of Moscow.
After Christianization of Russia (by Russia I mean the lands of the Eastern Slavic nations) the Slavic pagan sun-god Dazhbog was "replaced" by Christian St. George. But I could never understand how could St.George become the parton of England. What's the secret here?....
