Public Schools run by democrats don't seem to graduate enough smart people. lololol
Funny how the schools in Democratic states are so much better than the schools in Republican States.

The schools here in Texas--run according to conservative/libertarian principles--are among the worst schools in America.

The schools in Europe--run by even more liberal/socialist principles--are the best schools in the world.

As for PCs and Macs, I have extensive experience with both and use both daily, and I can safely say that moving from the Mac to my PC is like going backwards 100 years. Macs are that much better.

To generalize it depends somewhat on what you do most on the computer. Gamers seem to like XP. Graphics design people like Macs. Programmers like Linux. Vista really sucks, but not quite enough for me to switch to a Mac, which I know from experience also suck. Better the suck you know than the suck you don't. However, I have had to use Macs for many hours before and I still think they’re counterintuitive and difficult to use compared to XP and even Vista, but I grew up on windows.

I don’t get what Microsoft was thinking with vista though. It’s totally inferior to XP. If they feel they must come out with something new, at least make it better in some obvious way. Or at least make it easier for people to “downgrade” to XP. Not sure about stability. Haven’t had a stability problem with any computer. Worst thing about Vista is how it asks you for permission every time you run a program and you can’t turn it off. (*)(*)(*)(*)ing macs don’t even have a (*)(*)(*)(*)ing right-click button.

I also am totally turned off by Mac’s commercials. I think I would avoid buying one for that reason alone. I don’t watch TV often because of stupid commercials like theirs. Commercials are meant to get people to buy things, but more often they remind me not to buy things.

Yeah in the border states like Texas they have to instruct the criminal illegal alien children too. Did you factor that into your statistics?

That is very, extremely true.

I would equate owning a Mac to being left-handed:

It's different, novel, somewhat cool and can definitely give you a limited advantage in certain situations (ie: boxing, baseball)... it's quite the ice breaker/conversation piece. But when all is said and done, it's a right-handed world that we live in and being left-handed is just downright impractical. Try sitting next to someone at lunch, using a pair of scissors, writing at a desk or borrowing a baseball glove... very annoying, to say the least.
That's an interesting perspective. I wonder. I'm left handed and personality and ability tests, education and vocation would quickly tell you that I'm very right brained and creative. It hasn't been a choice, I've always been an intuitive person, the beat of a different drummer and all that. I have never thought of it in those terms but perhaps Macs appeal to me on that level. It may just be that Macs fit me best in the way I feel and function.

It would be interesting to know if left handed people are statistically more likely to be Mac users.

Mac users: How many of you are left handed?

Windows has serious security issues, while Apple is over-priced and feature-poor.

Solution ...... Linux. I use Ubuntu

I use both Macs and PCs professionally.

The Mac is for doing the work.

The PC is for testing the results on Internet Explorer.

There are a lot of high-end industries (like mine: graphic and Web design) where Macs dominate, and for good reason: they're powerful, adaptable, stable, fast and easy to use.

PCs are fine, but the Windows software, while somewhat easier to muck with under the hood, is clunkier and less stable than the Mac OS. I have *far* more technical and security problems with the PC than the Mac. And Windows has long suffered from severe bloating. The CPU overhead of the OS is huge compared to Mac.

Both can do the job. But it takes a certain amount of chutzpah to claim Windows is superior. It's biggest advantage is a huge installed base and thus a larger software selection. That has nothing to do with technical virtue and everything to do with market share.
Yep, I think you pretty much summed it up right there.

It becomes a downside when it reduces productivity. Office 2007 is a prime example.

I'm not a Mac user, but I work with some very smart IT people who swear by them, so I wouldn't call them "computers for dummies." We just purchased a new Mac Pro with dual quad-core processors for video editing -- that's some power!
___

BTW -- it's not that Microsoft is "abandoning" Vista so much as finishing it and calling it something else. The new OS will hopefully be what XP was to Windows 95. The new OS will concentrate more on the front end, whereas Vista was primarily a reworking of the back end.
