Outragous Behavior of US Military
This is not some half assed attempt to blame the US military for sexually assaulting POWs in Iraq.
It's much, much worse.
Today, my son came home from school and said "Dad, I want to join the National Guard. They only make you work 2 days a month, and they pay for your house, and they can't send you out into Iraq for two months after you enlist. The war will probably be over by then, they said, anyways."
I am normally a very pro-military thinker. I think the US has one of the best, and most moral armies in the world, led by one of the most self-critical and ethically-correct governments in the world (Australia doesn't count).
HOWEVER, this appals me, mostly because I know it's a crock of rhetoric, branded into the minds of these public-relations soldiers. Two years? No way would that ever be enforced. Two days a month? What about the soldiers in Iraq serving 30-31 days a month? The war will be over soon? They said that 5 years ago. As a matter of fact, they said that before the war even started.
Please, tell me what you think.
