Default How Much Is That Doggie In the Widow?

Bush staff wanted bomb-detect cash moved
By JOHN SOLOMON, Associated Press Writer 11 minutes ago

WASHINGTON - While the British terror suspects were hatching their plot, the Bush administration was quietly seeking permission to divert $6 million that was supposed to be spent this year developing new homeland explosives detection technology.
Congressional leaders rejected the idea, the latest in a series of steps by the
Homeland Security Department that has left lawmakers and some of the department's own experts questioning the commitment to create better anti-terror technologies.

Homeland Security's research arm, called the Sciences & Technology Directorate, is a "rudderless ship without a clear way to get back on course," Republican and Democratic senators on the Appropriations Committee declared recently.

"The committee is extremely disappointed with the manner in which S&T is being managed within the Department of Homeland Security," the panel wrote June 29 in a bipartisan report accompanying the agency's 2007 budget.

Rep. Martin Sabo, D-Minn., who joined Republicans to block the administration's recent diversion of explosives detection money, said research and development is crucial to thwarting future attacks and there is bipartisan agreement that Homeland Security has fallen short.

"They clearly have been given lots of resources that they haven't been using," Sabo said.

Do you suppose Rudy Guilliani can work this into the fundraising letters he's sending out that try to leverage the Brit plot into partisan political capital?

Default We've been at war 20 seconds, why aren't we winning?

Ah, sweet irony. The same dunderheads flailing out at DARPA and the NSA eavesdropping program now are ever-so-concerned at the "ineffectiveness" of an R&D arm in the antiterror effort. Comic relief is appreciated. Thanks for sharing.

You want surveillance authority stripped but R&D is "falling behind," so to speak? Which way are you trying to spin this, aside from into higher comedy?

Q-ill... I recommend that you wait until you have formed a coherent thought before you respond. Take all the time you need.

What, that hypocrisy diodn't strike your fancy? I find it hilarious. The same crotchgrabbers mewling piteously about even having to fight the War on Terror are now trying to act outraged if a start-up R&D effort fails to produce results before the next TV commercial break. Ah yes, whatever it takes to lose our freedoms to the next available enemy....

Hypocrisy from the left is expected, but rarely so transparent. Again, thanks for the chortle. Guffaw and wheeze to you too.

I did. The left snivels its head off unless it can find advantage in someone else's failure. Or, failing that, they cause a program to fail so they can blame the other side for trying to do anything at all.

Liberal bonebrains have attention spans so short they can't hear a pin drop, they forget it fell in the first place.
