Default Pentagon Says There's No Telling When Troop Surge Will End

Pentagon Says There's No Telling When the Troop Surge Will End

PENTAGON As the debate continues over pulling troops out of Iraq, Defense Secretary Robert Gates says leaving now would be a very bad idea.
In fact, Gates says the truth is nobody knows how long the troop increase in Baghdad will last, much less when all the troops can leave.

Gates told reporters yesterday at the Pentagon it's clear a pullout would lead to more sectarian violence. He says there are early signs the surge is helping secure Baghdad, but there's a great reluctance to engage in "happy talk" about it.

Two of the five combat brigades earmarked for Baghdad are fully operational right now, with a third to follow by month's end. The rest will be in place over the next two months.

There's also not telling when

It's a question of operational security (OPSEC) to avoid giving specific dates and timeline to the media. That information should always be need-to-know. There is a war going on, the last time I checked. Should we have announced to the Germans on June 5, 1944 that we are planning an invasion via Normandy?

Herk,
When you're a liberal, national security takes a back seat to your own agenda of Bashing Bush. They don't hate Bush because of the war, they hate the war because of Bush. Any pretense of secrecy is obvious evidence to them that Bush is up to something. There can be no other reason.

Let me know if there's anything else that I can clarify for you.

BTW... welcome to the board.
