Putin called for a freeze on Russian compliance with the Conventional Forces in Europe (CFE) treaty which limits military deployments across the continent.

'I propose we declare a moratorium on fulfilment by Russia of the CFE treaty,' Putin said in his annual state of the nation address.

Putin complained that Russia had both signed and ratified the landmark 1990 treaty between NATO and the former Warsaw Pact and was today doing its best to apply all the terms of the accord while the West had not even ratified the agreement.

Bush with the Star Wars project is making the Russians rethink policy.

You better hope not. If the Soviets couldnt win a Cold War, Russia has no chance at all.

The alternative is worse. I am ok with a Russian military Build Up if it means we get a missile defense system in exchange.

We need a defense against rogue missile attack, even if it means having to endure Russia's pouting.

Star wars missile defense was a joke in its inception due to the incredible lack of technology..

however, these days, with what we blow on defense, its almost foolish not to cobble one together.

although, they are far from full-proof, and undoubtably a CERTAIN CONTRACTOR is gonna over-charge the pants off of us for it.

Could be "Liberal-Millitary-supply depot" although I hear KBR gives em a real run for there money.

This is good news. We now have a worthy opponent again. And maybe NATO can go back to being NATO. And get rid of those Eastern Europeans. They were pretty useless in their last alliance.

Russia doesnt have a prayer of keeping up with us in a Cold War. They dont have the Soviet Union's resources, and even those wernt enough. They need to work on their economy a bit more before they can consider winning a cold war...
