I think they have been pretty busy. And I also think they have had a little more to worry about that tracking the serial numbers of weapons issued to Iraq's military and police 2 and 3 years ago. People were naive if they thought some of those issued weapons would not end up in the hands of the enemy. The enemy takes them off them when they are killed....steal them......and who knows what else to get their hands on them. And we collect weapons from the enemy as well.

Do some research before posting. AK-47s are assault rifles, not sniper rifles. And unlike some assault rifles, like the M16, they're not particularly great for single aimed shots.

On the original topic, some loss is to be expected. But this is a pretty massive loss, and it's hardly due to enemy action, unless someone wants to claim that the Iraqi military has suffered 100,000 casualties. it's down to corruption and weapons being siphoned off to arm militias.

Why is everybody assuming that the Iraqis or insurgents have the weapons? With no paper trail, the US military could just as well be arming "independent contractors".
