Putin recognises it is a way to which both countries can rally behind.

This is in favour for all people in power dealing with this crisis. Arm's races do not always end well (If you can call the end of the Cold War good)

The US was stockpiling nukes well before the Soviets were. They were just following suit, and it was a good thing, because if they didn't, they would have been inviting an invasion from the US.

Now we are in the 21st century. What else do you expect other nations to do, sit back and relax while the US pumps out rail guns, new age stealth, and space weapons. Give me a break!

Yea, I'm sure the Soviets would just sit around, do nothing, and hope for the best.

I guess you didn't learn the lesson from 9/11.

Very good point.

That's why we built the nukes, so we wouldn't have to invade them

There are more sides to the cold war and arms race than the treat to use Nuclear weapons.
The Russian Navy has been rebuilt and part is now being deployed into the Mediterranean.

As Natural resources become relatvely more valuable, Russia becomes more wealthy. The Russian police State has renationalised the the Oil and Gas companies and thrown their owners into prison. They spend the money on their building their miltary.

I think we should we should tough it out with Russia and continue to protect our friends, build our defences and ensure we stay 3 steps ahead of these sly Russians

Yeah.

Putin doesn't know what he's starting up. Best to leave the past behind. Russia will fail again.
