Last I checked the only invasion done was on the part of the Soviets. It wasn't the US that put up a wall shooting and/or arresting anyone who tried to leave. The US also didn't take over a host of coutries in Europe like the Soviets. The US was stockpiling weapons to ensure they wouldn't suffer the same fate. And the USSR was very shortly behind the US in terms of development. And US stockpiling didn't begin until the Soviets detonated their own bomb.
