He was quite right. The USA had nothing to do with the demise of the Soviet Union. That was their own doing. Read a book sometime.

Not true. The Soviets were already ahead of the West in terms of military spending. They had more of everything than all of NATO combined did. The Soviet aim was not to keep up with the rest of the world. It was to dominate it completely. To do this, they required overwhelming military superiority. The very reason for the existence of the Soviet Union was the goal of world communism. They cared not what they spent, only that they succeeded. This takes cash, lots of it. I already posted elsewhere the reasons for the downfall of the Soviet Union, none of which have anything to do with your ridiculous post.

Never heard of the factual statement as muttered by one of your own American generals, that the Soviet Red Army had more tanks than the rest of the world combined did? Someone's not very bright, and I ain't saying who.

Absolutely correct. We Canadians at least know the truth. The Soviets, seeing that the Americans were placing nukes in Turkey, so close to their own territory, did one up on the Americans by placing nuclear missiles right at the American doorstep, a mere 30 or so kilometres from American soil. This tactic forced the Americans to take a collective dump, then send out their entire navy to prevent the Soviets from shipping any more missiles into Cuba. So, Kennedy calls Kruschev 'hey Krushy, you win! Let's say I take out my missiles from Turkey, and you stop sending yours to Cuba yes? We both win this way, status-quo and all that effing jazz! Is it a deal? Yes? Awright Krushy!'
