Their big achievement in WWII was to push back the german army after they'd frozen to death. They have poor tactics and obsolete weapons. An american girl scout troop could send them screaming into the woods.

Well, clearly you took on a fair and non biased perspective. The fact of the matter is that Russian armies aren't hungry. I don't mean hungry in the sense of a need for sustenance, I mean hungry as in the drive to conquer and control.
The average Russian troop is underfed, underequipped, and underpaid. The only members of the Russian armed forces even remotely interested in waging war are the overpaid and overfed senior officers, who are so sure that Russia is the best, they figure any war effort they make is destined to succeed, contrary to historical perspective. In addition, the lack of flexibility and disdain for innovation and improvisation in the higher ecehlons of the chain of command are detrimental to most campaigns outside of their homeland. However, this same lack of flexibility and rigid stubborness are excellent qualities for defending their homeland. With the weight of numbers and the motivation to defend their homes and families is on their side, the Russian military is a formidable force indeed. |

The Russians have probably the third most powerful military, behind ourselves and the chinese. One can only assume that their military failures are the fault of those in the highest echelons of command. Insulting the courage and capability of the grunts and lower command is childish and ignorant, my friend.

"the girl scouts could send them running"? Really? I bet the residents of Grozny (Chechnya) would beg to differ.
"Their big achievement in WWII was to push back the german army after they'd frozen to death. They have poor tactics and obsolete weapons." What about Stalingrad and operation Uranus? What about Kursk? What about the Soviets taking all of Manchuko and North Korea in a matter of weeks in late 1945? Know your history before you post absurd generalizations.
