Default The draft should be only used when no other choice

I understand as well that there are ways to avoid service especially if you have a great deal of money. But even the remote possibility of sending your kids to war can bring clarity to even the thickest of skulls.
Couldn't this also give the government a chance to enact a more aggressive foreign policy if it can have a steady supply of soldiers for the grinder? It would also be a simple fact that it would be the poor who would be drafted, you won't see the rich kids fighting, nope. Of course the biggest fault of a draft is forcing young people to fight in stupid wars like the one we are currently involved in. Give me a real conflict where the barbarians are literally at the gates and then we can talk about drafting people into the military.

As much of a Conservative as I am, any country that has to force its people to fight a war doesn't deserve to win.

You may not think they deserved to win, but the Greatest Generation™ was drafted into military service and won WW2 within 5 years.

Anyhooo, no need for a military draft atm. I like the idea of sending to Bagdad everyone who thinks nation building Iraq is an awesome idea... think of it as setting up Neocon Kibbutzes in the middle of injun country.

Lotsa religious fanatical natives with guns, no social safety net for the masses, and no laws to hamper hypercapitalism... I'm sure the neocons and religous right wingnuts in the Republican Party will feel right at home over there.

Best part is, in two years they can take Bushjr with them and then crown him King with Cheney as Queen Dick. Both will be unemployed by then so I'm pretty sure they'll be gungho to go.

Yes, a draft should be reinstated, so the U.S. Government doesn't go and start more foolish wars like Iraq.

I chose No...But I would support the use of a draft in the event of a "World War" or something like that, you know?

Default Hey Folks

I'll have to disagree with my colleague AverageAmerican in his opinion of our Armed Force Numbers. I believe we are hoplessly under-manned for this campaign and a draft is almost certain in the future if this country ever get it's head together and decides to win.

I chose yes BUT I dont want it to be a "draft" per se. I think military obligation should be mandatory (at least 2 years and one of those years counts for college credit) at a certain age. A lot of kids nowadays need a little order in their lives, some needs to have their asses kicked every now and then.

I think a workable system could be successfully implemented, like give the kids options such as location of duty, choosing to serve in the same place as friends and such.

Like anything else, a law would have to be passed by Congress and signed by the President (or overridden by Congress).
nah, its not like anything like a draft is based on colour.

Default DRAFT

In the entire history of this nation, we've never had a fair draft system. Never. The middle class and lower income class always serve as canon fdder while the elite has fun elsewhere.
