If the US was invaded, there would be no need for a draft...it would be Red Dawn all over. I am a pacifist, but I would fight to defend my family and my country.

Now if a war was declared elsewhere, and a conscription were in place, I would choose jail over serving in combat. That is, after they catch me. I would be a draft dodger of the first degree.

Why not we have to make man out of the Liberals someday.

I didn't read this entire topic. I therefore, ask for a pass on this one.

If a Draft were to be implemented after what all of us know in the internet age, the 60's and early 70's are going to be looked on as a picnic compared to what this country would go through now. All we and the rest of the world would learn is how much of an Imperialistic Government the repubs have turned our country into in just 7+ years.

I wouldn't be in favor of a draft for the military unless we're at war.

However, some kind of compulsory national service for a couple of years might not be such a bad idea. Reinstate something like the Works Progress Administration or the Civilian Conservation Corps from Franklin Roosevelt's era and try to improve the country a little.

Remember the words of John F. Kennedy - "And so, my fellow Americans: ask not what your country can do for you — ask what you can do for your country."

I hear ya, Spots. Before I went into Army, I did a stint with the Y.A.C.C. (Young Adult Conservation Corp). An excellent program for those 16-25. It helped me prepare for the military in an amazing way. Then Reagan came along.

Anyone else heard of it?

If conscription was not on the cards for your illustrious leader "Bush" or others in his administration why should anyone else be forced to go to his oil wars?

Oh yes, cause someone is either stupid enough and poor enough not to know any better!
It certainly has nothing to do with Flag or Country. Pride or proud... the American nation certainly cannot be proud of what their military forces are doing in Iraq or Afganistan. Over one million dead Iraqies and six million Iraqies who are refugees!
The Thompson newsgroup might be able to restrict the news in America but the facts are there if you are prepared to look!

I'd sooner be a Liberal than stupid and alive rather than dead!
But Bush has to look after his friend,s ie Haliburton etc, his family friends ie Bin Laden etc.
Yes you bury your head in the sand!!!

No draft.

But if for one reason or another it had to be all people must serve 3 years between the ages of 18 and say 35. There is no one exempt. Every man and woman. The only way not to serve is a permanent provable disability that would keep you from working any job. So you could never hold a job if you did not do your military service because of disability.

Why so angry?

Oh, and yes, a million dead ENEMIES and TERRORISTS give me a warm, fuzzy feeling toward our troops. Look i am by no means a supporter of the war. i think we should say f--k the middle-east and africa and pull everyone and everything back to the homeland. however, unlike some i recognize that (*)(*)(*)(*)(*)ing about the war wont expedite the completion of the job so...

Didn't know I wasn't allowed to be proud of my own country. My bad.
