Default ...

There is no forseeable need for a draft, and if such a need would arise they would insitute it without any public opinion polls. So, your in the army now!

Conscription on the other hand...that you would not want.
Wasting 8 (or more) perfectly good months of your life, oh I hate conscription.

Default Not now

Not for this BS war, however if they had declared the need for a draft prior to invading Iraq maybe some of the voters would have reconsidered the need to invade when their own sons could have been called on.

I have not heard that, but it wouldn't surprise me. If he invaded one country for no reason knowing that he would be running for re-election, just think what he probably will do when he knows he WON'T be running for re-election.

Default Some info

Here are some links/info. I have to admit that the way the articles are presented are kind of weird -- especially how they link back to SSS. I am really, REALLY ***REEEEEAAAALLLLLYYYY*** not trying to start a debate on whether or not it will happen, because either it will, or it won't.

I am only trying to do two thing: Get a feel for how people feel. Find out if there is more information.

Thx.

(Note... this link has other links that are good)

Default I have some questions...

Who decides on starting the draft if it is needed? Does the President? Does Congress? What's the procedure here?

Like anything else, a law would have to be passed by Congress and signed by the President (or overridden by Congress).

In Finland the measure has to passed by parliament, and approved by the president, but then again all Finnish males from 18-65 are considered reserves so...

So what PJO34 said for the states sounds about right. But I see no reason to call for a draft in the forseeable future, unless a WWIII seems to be lurking behind the corner.
