Speaker John Boehner (R-Ohio) on Thursday predicted that House Republicans would unveil — and possibly vote on — a plan to replace the healthcare law in 2014, fulfilling a long-delayed promise to voters.

An alternative to ObamaCare will be “one of the big issues” the House GOP will discuss at its annual policy retreat at the end of the month, Boehner said.

While the party has repeatedly run on a pledge to “repeal and replace” President Obama’s signature law, GOP lawmakers have never coalesced around a single alternative. Boehner is now facing mounting pressure from conservatives who say the party cannot continue to merely denounce the unpopular ObamaCare as a means of winning elections.

Well, it only took them three years...and FORTY meaningless show votes on "repeal" ....to START to work on figuring out an alternative health care reform, that might be ready by Summer.

Going to be funny to see if they come up with something "based on free market solutions".....or something that actually can work. :)

    The Plan From the GOP:
    1. Cross state purchase of insurance products
    2. Limiting liability in malpractice insurance lawsuits
    3. Allowing people who are 22 to stay on a plan of a parent.
    4. Complete repeal of Obamacare.

Honestly that is about all the will fly with the current GOP idealogy

Something that would actually work would be an enormous improvement from FullRetardCare.

Speaking of FRC, was it ready and fully implemented by its launch date?

The double-standards of "progressives" crack me up - thanks for the laugh, Cap'n!

Yes, that's the problem. Anything that will actually cover the uninsured...involves Government, and their Base are basically Anarchists at this point and will revolt against any "socialism".

And none of their "free market solutions"...will actually cover the uninsured, or even help those already signed up or states (including Republican states) with their Medicare.

Boehner will be left sayiing "Well, this is just a START...we'll come up with MORE stuff...AFTER you keep the House GOP and make the Senate GOP"

    - - - Updated - - -

Let me guess..."health savings accounts"? Where the 22 year old who gets Hodgkins Lymphoma has all of $1500 saved up to cover his $350,000 chemo and radiation treatments???

    :D

It wouldn't look like ObamaCare, that's for sure.

    "I don't know...but it'll be different...and...uh...better."

See, Boehner knows he and the Repubs will never lose Talon's vote.....it's the people who think before they vote that is driving the Speaker to come up with SOME kind of plan.

Right? Because every 22 year old and every person with a HSA comes down with Hodgkins Lymphoma.

And Obama forbid that anyone should be free to control their own health care decisions. The American people are too (*)(*)(*)(*)ing stupid to handle that on their own - they need a bunch of neo-socialist idiots in Washington who can't even get a website up and running in three years to do it for them.

    Guffaw!

Whatever it is, it cannot involve any new taxation or deficit spending.

You need something more specific, Cap'n?

    Okay. For starters:

It wouldn't look like a neo-socialist redistribution scheme that robs people of their control and freedom of choice over their HC decisions.

It wouldn't look like a plan that forbids people from keeping the HC plans that they chose and they like in order to dump them into more expensive plans that cover crap they don't need and will never use.

It wouldn't look like a plan that ignores economic reality, costs people their jobs and full time employment.

See, neo-socialist statists will never lose the Gorn Captain's vote because he needs a government plan and they'll always be there to provide him with one. Since I'm not looking to the government for a plan and control over my life, I'm not needy that way. :)

GOP solution to Obamacare = die

    - - - Updated - - -

it is imperative that intelligent people regulate the uneducated masses who most often vote and think against their best interest.

you wanna know what happens when gov't doesn't exist and people become "free" to control themselves - you get Taliban-controlled Afghanistan, that's what.

What I find amusing is that the right has been whinging about government take over of healthcare (which it isn't - thanks luntz), but are fully prepared to usurp states rights by allowing insurance companies to sell across state lines, which effectively allows insurers to ignore state laws and rules. If that is truly the plan, it should be noted that the few republican states that have attempted to set up a "compact" amongst themselves have failed miserably, and most industry analysts have concluded that it won't have much impact on controlling costs, even it it did work.

    But then,
Imagine an homogenized single minimum standard of private insurance coverage on a national basis. Why the very thought is outrageous.

which opens a huge can of worms. If you purchase a plan from say Wyoming, and live in PA, and you have a dispute with your insurer, do you have to hire an attorney from Wyoming to deal with Wyoming's Insurance Commissioner? Do you have to travel to Wyoming yourself?. How will you file your complaint? Or will there have to be a Federal Insurance Commission to handle interstate complaints.

Another issue, why wouldn't insurance companies flock to states with the fewest regulations and protections for consumers, the ones that make it the most difficult for consumers to appeal insurance company decisions. We saw that effect when we allowed credit card companies and banks to market their credit cards across state lines, the vast majority of banks and credit card companies, incorporated in the three states with the fewest regulations and the fewest consumer protections, Delaware, N.Dakota and N. Carolina. Almost all credit cards are issued from those three states, and to get those cards you sign away most of your legal rights, in case of a dispute with the credit card company, they get to choose the arbitrator, the arbitration takes place in one of those three states, the full burden of proof is on the consumer to prove beyond a shadow of a doubt that the error is on the part of the lender. The consumer has almost no chance of success when challenging the lender. We can expect to see the same thing with health insurance across state lines.

Texas did this ten years ago, and still has the highest rate of uninsured in the nation and their insurance prices are about average.

I doubt they could get the votes to require insurers to keep kids on their parents insurance until age 26. And if you just allow companies to do that, it's likely that you would only see the really large employer based plans do that.

Which at this point would result in about 6 million formerly uninsured losing their insurance. And for those with pre-existing conditions who now have been able to get coverage, it will be back to the ER and charity care, since the Republicans have come up with no workable plan to deal with that group of people.

Honestly that is about all the will fly with the current GOP idealogy[/QUOTE]

    .....
And what would a republican healthcare plan look like is the question. Please answer it...and we will then know that republicans have no actual plan other than trying to gut President Obama's plan!

We get it !! The republicans are still denying the obvious...Mitt Romney LOST...live with it. The repubs cannot think of anything other than their rancid hatred of President Obama and are still trying to erase the most beneficial medical plan for all Americans that has ever been put forth by either party.

Now explain the republicans' healthcare plan that will surpass Obamacare or get off the potty-chair.

If ONE does....it proves that "health savings account" nonsense is just that...nonsense.

BTW, why do you care? Boehner could promise NO alternative and 40 more pointless "repeal" votes...and you'll still vote a straight GOP ticket this November.

    - - - Updated - - -

Does it matter to you if it...works? Or like Talon, is your vote in Boehner's backpocket regardless?.

    Exactly as I predicted.

No answer on what it WOULD look like, huh? :)

    I'm betting....no.

Talon is stuck. Even actual thinkers on the Right are stuck. They CANNOT come up with a plan that BOTH "stays true to conservative principles" AND...works, actually addresses the problems of the uninsured, etc.

BTW, you know why? Because much of "Obamacare"?....was lifted from the OLD 1993 "Republican Alternative"...to "Hillarycare". As well as policy ideas from the Heritage Foundation, the rightwing think-tank.

They cannot propose an alternative....because they already did it...21 years ago. THEN that plan was the "free market solution".....now of course, it's "Communism". :D

If it "works" at the expense of more taxation on people who were and will be paying for the own health care anyway, it is nothing more than another form of "free stuff" - redistribution of MY income to some moocher.

When you back off and look at what it purports to do - provide free or subsidized health care to more people - how could it NOT cost more. How do you pay for it without some form of taxation? It's a tax. That's why I refer to it as ObamaTax.

How do you pay for military defense without taxes?

Oh, that's right, you put a war on the credit card and rack up debt...as Dubya did...and none of the "deficit hawks" on the Right complain.

    You didn't...did you?

    Taxcutter says:
I get something worthwhile from military spending. Foreign armies are kept far away.

I get nothing from having some moocher getting something free.

Taxes for defense: A necessary evil.
Taxes for ObamaTax: Money down the rathole.

Understanding the insurance industry as I do, in the absence of a Federal Department of Insurance, selling across state lines isn't a wise idea.

You mean it's better to push it through and force it upon the American citizenry in a few months? I wonder if he'll let you read it before he has Congress vote on it.
