Lemme get my hip waders, because this is DEEP...

All, repeat ALL Z/28's left the factory with iron block, iron heads, and forged steel crank. There were no exceptions.

When they left the factory, they certainly were.

Ye gods. Just about everything except large trucks since the 1940's was constant-mesh (better known as "Synchromesh", actually GM's trademark name for it). Any transmission can be float-shifted.

Been a while, but I recall 3.73's were standard, 4.10 and 4.56 optional, 4.88 as a dealer option. Also a very-rare rear disc option.

ONLY the intake was aluminum. The heads were iron.

Actually, they also had the 283...rather than use it, they put a 283 crank in a 302 block to make the 302. The 327 was available in the Camaro (as well as across the line, from Novas to Impalas to trucks), but Trans Am did not permit destroking engines to meet the displacement limit until 1970.

    Are you on drugs?

I need educated input as to the Best Performance car for the Buck.
I insist an EVO.That is why I own one.
There's no reason for me to trade in my 2005 EVO if there
isn't a model out there as good for the Buck.
    I insist there isn't.
I'm the same way towards motorcycles.Any rummy can just lay down
    cash for a Harley.Harley {except the V-Rod } aren't performance
motorcycle. They are merely Popular motorcycles that have an exhaust
    note.

My friend is re-powering his Vega wagon this winter...after 20 years and close to 200,000 miles, the 408 is ready to be retired.

Probable result: LS motor in a Vega. :D

Well, I can't agree with you. I drive a 93 Jeep Cherokee Sport with 253 thousand miles on it and have had only normal maintenance.

evo and sti are 2 of the best bang for your buck vehicles out there. plus they are easy and cheap to modify and make great hp with just about everything with a simple canned tune, skies the limit with those cars with many many parts available. hell they come hooked up from motor too suspension but they lack interior.

i used to own an STI and been a fan of the evo. went to buy an evo first but the salesman was a dick to me and treated me like i couldnt afford it so i walked right on over to Subaru and had a talk with their salesman who treated me with respect and interest and the next day i drove my brand new 05 STI into the Mitsubishi parking lot with my middle finger waving at the (*)(*)(*)(*)(*)(*)(*) who missed out on a sale lol.

great cars for the money and extremely fun to drive. felt like the STI was beefier and stronger off the line and was more fun around corners, but i love how smooth the evo felt running through the gears and feel like the evo had a lil bit more on the high end. also love the fact they came with front mount intercoolers and not top mount like the subaru.

ugh, only if there was a way to combine those two freaks of nature into one, id never drive another vehicle again lol.

    update on the M3!!!!

been sitting in a garage for the last 3 months or so, (*)(*)(*)(*)s about to get real. ordered new headers and section 1 pipe, the rest of the exhaust will be purchased very soon. also ordering coilovers and wheels. gonna have all the small dents taken out of it, sand the car down and primer it and have it wrapped in satin black. interior is being gutted as im going with a new scheme.

lot of work is gonna get done, hopefully ill have all the parts in by october and finished by february.

just a small bite of whats going on with it, what i explained hasnt even touched the surface of whats gonna be done to that car in the next 6-8 months. cant wait to get started and finished lol.

My kinda thread. I'm in the process of doing a major front end over haul; new rack, ball joints, tie rods, wheel bearings, turn the rotors, new pads, alignment, new flywheel, clutch, rms, misc oem nuts and bolts, reseal oil pan, sand/wire wheel and paint control arms yadda yadda.

I'm about half way done, just waiting on some parts, then to reassemble.

    A (*)(*)(*)(*)ty old jap car.

I often go to autotrader and search for e46 m3's particularly the 98 and I think 99 sedans. I would really like to find a low milage auto for a nice dd. i really like the 2002 m5 body, can't recall at the moment. I drool over the e60 m5 too but just a bit out of reach for me right now.

    What year is your M?

the 98 and 99 M3 are the e36 models, i like them too. I have a 2004 model, which is the e46(2000-2006) . the M5 you like is the E39 model, and yes they are bad ass. was thinking about getting an e39 M5 but the money isnt right and i have a hard enough time with the gas mileage on my M3, besides i havent driven my M in like 6 or 7 months.

but if you want an e36 M3 i wouldnt worry too much about mileage because most M owners take good care of their rides. as long as they have taken care of its maintenance then i wouldnt worry a bit, besides you can get those models from anywhere between $4k-$8k .

Ah yes, e36, I get them confused. For some reason the e46 has never appealed to me. I probably need to drive one to appreciate it more, seems that always helps.

There is a particular dealer that I favor on autotrader, the bmw specialist something or another. They always have low mileage well maintained cars.

Just did a full brake job on my Cherokee...front pads & rotors, rear shoes, drums, and hardware. I wound up replacing both rear wheel cylinders when I couldn't get the bleeder screws loose. It stops better now. :)

Liz's Blazer also needs brakes. Blarg, we get to dismantle old-style Spicer lockout hubs...what a mess.

The e46 has a better motor as far as internals and has a Lil more power, but it weighs more than the e36. As far as suspension and handling they are not worlds apart and both can be beasts very easily on any track. My m3 is just more dazzling on the interior is all and a bit more round.

What I'd love to have is an e30 3series and drop an s54(m3 motor) and 6speed trans into it as well as some 4.10 gears. That would be a monster that would kick both m3s we mentioned ass and they can look quite nice with the right parts. But that's a $20k swap on the motor and trans alone lol.

I do like the e30 body too. Have you seen that silver e30 with the e60 v10 swapped in? It's beautiful, many hours of fabrication on that project.

I am weary of the s54 motor as I have heard they had some issues but I believe the problems were isolated and resolved at the factory after numerous customers experienced engine failures.

yeah i have seen that particular car, that took a (*)(*)(*)(*) ton of man hours and was totally worth it.

Ive never had any problems with mine and i have ridden it pretty damned hard at times. so far mine has right at 78k miles and the engine still purs like normal. Then again i bought mine used with 55k almost 5 years ago. the only things i have ever had to change were tires, oil, brake pads and rotors and a clutch. Other than that she hasnt had a single problem.

But i wouldnt doubt if the engine issue had to do with the VANOS, ive heard some straight up horror stories because of that damned thing and they are expensive to fix if you cant do it yourself. the parts alone cost around $1200.

My grandmother's car when I was in high school: 1971 Chrysler Town & Country 9-passenger wagon. It had the 365HP 440 TNT, the big drum brakes (that my uncle and I added CHP-spec sintered metallic linings to), even factory dual exhaust. Not a rocket (especially at ~4900lbs), but it would dust an auto-trans 5.0 Mustang or a 305 Camaro! Those front drums were a pain: 11x3", as I recall, cast iron, and about 45lbs each!

Also, my International Genesis has drums all around...it has air brakes.

My Summer car. I bought this RX8 in 2006 and only have about 25k on it. I drive an old beat up 93 Jeep Cherokee during the Winter.

I'm pleased to say I have none! I now live life w/o.

    I've had

Puergot 406 made in 90's, manual trans: Fun to drive!

Puregot 206 made in 90's, same as above but not as good

Citreon Xsara 02. Some problems but I like it

Chevrolet Lumina 99: Piece of (*)(*)(*)(*).. 4 cylander misfires at separate occasions, and everything made out of plastic in the cabin breaks.

89 Dodge Aries: Bought it as a lemon for a small price, but it wound up being a decent car for some time to come (until I (*)(*)(*)(*)ed it up)

    Pontiac 6000, 1990

    Best brand of all time:

Pontiac.. It's my favorite brand and I was mad to see them discontinue it.
