The two main problems with government handling social issues is a) the one size fits all approach, and b) lack of feedback loop. Private schools can tailor the education to meet the particular student or need.

And private schools have to preform or they lose customers!

Government education is only as good as the worst example of it.

But there aren't a whole lot of those. You're trying to blame a problem on something that isn't a cause and then use that to justify calling the not-cause bad.

    That's bad logic.

Our public schools do not have the best track record with standardized tests, proving that they are not exactly the best educators in the world.

The problem there is the standardized tests. They suck and don't actually help students learn.

The main problem with our public schools isn't the schools themselves or (generally) the teachers, but the fact that we put too many legislators rather than educators in charge of education.

Back then I'm sure the schools were much better.

They are not proven stupid by poor academic performance, just ignorant.

In some cases the ignorance may be caused by stupidity.

In most cases its their own lack of motivation and negligent schools.

Well, how about this...I highly doubt that things were radically different 12 to 14 years ago. Yes, it has worsened, but there were even in Detroit-- as with everywhere else--people who are determined to get ahead. When jerks make fun of people with blanket condemnation you might as well be pissing on these people's progress.

So, yeh, that was a dick thing to say.

Some public charter schools are as good as or better than most private schools.

What makes you say that it's not a cause? The schools are underfunded. That is 100% the government's fault.

"We" in this case is government. Thanks for further reinforcing my point.

But the best schools are private and the worst schools are public, for the simple reason that bad private schools fail quickly and bad public schools don't.

In every list of worst/most miserable cities in America the vast majority of them have been run by Democrats. Republican controlled states are outperforming the Democratically controlled states. You can just compare Texas and California which have virtually identical demographics and both of which have been run by conservatives and liberals respectively for decades virtually unchallenged. Texas is ahead of CA in education, employment, infrastructure and every other positive metric while California is ahead in all the negative metrics. California's roads are falling apart and their economy is collapsing around them while Texas can't build infrastructure fast enough to keep up with the influx of all the new people and businesses (many from California). I have friends in Texas that are actually getting upset because of all the liberal Californians coming in and are worried that they will destroy their state as well. Austin is already turning into a pseudo liberal mecca in that state.

This is really funny here. Blacks are rating Southern cities higher than Democratically controlled areas for where they want to live. http://www.blackenterprise.com/mag/top-10-cities-for-african-americans-2007/ Specifically Texas and North Carolina each got two choices.

People can try and point out the living standards or the education standards of the Southern state but they keep leaving out the most important point. Southern states don't spend any money on anything. Their schools suck because they are low tax, low service states. Meanwhile cities like Oakland, CA and Milwaukee, WI, Detroit, MI etc. spend over $10,000 per student and actually rank lower than the southern states in education. What is better having low service/low tax or low service/high tax?

Anyone that doesn't see a correlation between stronger Democratic/Liberal control and worse living conditions is just lying to themselves.

    To the OP:

The reason for this is simple.......schools are not doing their jobs. With "No Child Left Behind" taking funding from any schools whose students do not pass standardized tests, schools focus completely on test taking and not on actually educating students.

I hate teachers unions...but I can't blame the teachers for this. I can't even blame the union. Its the families that are corrupt---Many children rebel against learning and the children who do want to learn---are kept from it by disruptive, disrespectful children who don't allow the teacher to teach.

I've never been to Detroit. But my kids went to a "Detroit" school, for a short time til I moved to another location.

Haha. African Americans have gotten themselves into quite the conundrum. They are partners in a political coalition with the teachers unions which warehouse and process their kids like poultry. Black kids are always going to get poor educations because the teachers unions want maintenance of the status quo.

Societies are like a machine the operation of which is dependent on many complex mechanical and electrical systems. When one system goes down maybe the rest of the systems can continue to function.

However, when enough systems fail the machine stops functioning. When enough systems fail for a society it collapses.

American popular culture, public education, economic organization, political culture, and other systems are failing one by one. When enough of the systems fail America will be gone as we know it.
